EDIT: This will give one or more ADs heart burn. Someone will lose their HC (to OSU). Then that college's AD will need to replace the coach who moved to OSU.

In 1996, EMU was coming off a big, big year beating Duke in the NCAAs and giving #1 UConn a very tough game. They were ready for a big 1996/7. Cal fired their HC in a pay for play scandal. Ben Braun moved from EMU to Cal in September 1996.

EMU opted for a Minnesota assistant, Milton Barnes, and that wasn't a happy marriage. After 4 less than happy years, he wasn't renewed or fired or asked to resign or something.

He was replaced by Jim Boone and that one didn't work out. Then Charles Ramsey replaced Boone. Then Rob Murphy replaced Ramsey. (That's two decades of EMU hoops... Lol).

Matta has had severe back problems the last few years. This past season, he had to coach practices using a rolling chair on the court.

I am guessing that this is for health reasons.

Dayton's coach, Archie Miller, was hired by Indiana when IU fired Crean. OSU may yet go after Wichita's coach, Gregg Marshall.

They hire Holtman from Butler.

Holtmann was Ohio asst from 2008-10, was teammates with Groce at Taylor.

I'm surprised Groce didn't jump ship from Akron and take the job. I'm sure he would have had he been offered.

Matta outperformed Groce in 4/5 seasons and made 3 NCAAT to Groce's 1 and was still fired. It would be dumb to fire Matta to bring in a coach that proved to be a complete flop at Illinois. Groce will need to make some noise with Akron before he gets offered another big time job.

I wasn't offended, I just misread what you wrote. I thought you wrote that he had to of been offered the OSU job as in he was a good candidate for the job. After reading it again I see the sarcasm.

no I don't think he's a good candidate for the job, but that's why I would love to see him take it...so they would BOTH suffer! LOL
