If that were true, why would we have separate women's and men's sports?
Athletes play sports according to gender. Duh!
Someone can correct me, but I believe the basketball players at the end of the commercial are the Ogwumike sisters from Rice, but not wearing Rice gear.

Jackson did not have Tommy John surgery. What he had was much less invasives; I believe it was a partially torn ligament which they had originally hoped would simply heal.

Then what was the scar the commentators were referring to on the broadcast? I'm sure you're right but McDonald clearly said he's recovering from TJ and they showed a scar. Of course, with the media nowadays who knows what's real and what's not....especially coming from Big Ben.

He had surgery, but it was NOT TJS. If it was he would never have returned to pitch this year as he didn't go under the knife until last Summer.

One of our kids here where I live had TJ in October. He's been cleared to catch full time already. If JP had it last summer, it's definitely possible to be pitching 11 months later. Not saying you're wrong, Walt, but that's what was said on the broadcast.

I have assumed they are Chiney and Neka, who are currently in the WNBA.

Yes, pitchers now start throwing long toss as early as 7 - 8 months after TJS, but keep in mind that Jackson was cleared to start throwing in January, and in fact, did start throwing in January. Even threw some intrasquads the first week in February. What I heard from several pretty reliable sources was that it was not Tommy John Surgery.

To me, the Ogwumikes in the NCAA video look Stanford alums Nnemkadi (#30) 2009-12 and Chiney (#13) 2011-14), the older sisters of the Pepperdine/Rice pair, Olivia & Erica.
Below are two still frames from the video. The uniform colors are close to Stanford's, too (although in the the video shot of their faces, it appears that there is no school name on the uniform front, so they might be generic copyright-avoiding unis):
And here is a photo of the older Ogwumikes in dark Stanford uniforms:
Complicating matters, however, is that at Pepperdine, the younger Ogwumike sisters did wear the same numbers as their Stanford siblings: Erica #13 and Olivia #30 ... and it appears that they will also wear those name numbers at Rice, as well. :-)
Of course, the Waves' colors (blue and orange) and ours (blue & grey) are not close to the red shown in the NCAA video.
And the younger Ogwumike sisters do not look identical to their older siblings:

I would suspect the athletes in the video (all of them, including the Ogwumikes) are alums since none are identified by name/school. It was probably more of an acting gig than a current student gig.

??? Why are we going on and on about a possible WBB link in a baseball thread? Must we canabalize every thread on here and turn it into something else?

Now THIS you and I agree on....
No idea how (or why) this is even a topic worth discussing on any thread...much less a baseball thread.

The ads were on heavy rotation during the ESPN broadcasts of every single regional game. As a result, the ads played during the game for which this is the game thread. And there was a Rice connection.

In his various tweets yesterday, after talking with The OG, the Chron's Adam Coleman indicated that while Otto is almost certainly gone, it would not be a surprise if both Myers and Gray returned even if drafted. And if that were to happen, we'd have an incredibly strong returning lineup corp with Chandler, Proctor, Myers, DiCaprio and Gray (along with Gneiting, Moss, Lammons and Sarchet to be joined by incoming Freshmen, Cruz, Cameaux and Aviles).

The draft has not treated us well the last 5+ years. Fingers crossed they all come back and they are as hot at the start of the season as they were at the end.
