A past quote from Tubby that make sense for many true Tigers! Be positive.
Of a previous mentor, Smith said. “His whole thing was, first thing, image. How do you want people to perceive you? Do you want to travel in a sweatsuit? How do you want people to see you? And the second thing was, you have to have a system and a philosophy that you can teach, and is something they will enjoy playing, that you can sell to your administration and that you know inside and out. And the last thing he said: scheduling.”

I ask this question. What's wrong with Tubby being our coach and using this approach?

I really do not care much about Tubby's philosophy and system and concern about the perception of other people.

The acid test to me is making the NCAA Tourney and winning games in the NCAA Tourney. Tubby has won one NCAA Tourney game in ten years! That will not cut it at Memphis. He will have to improve and he should be accountable for his results.

Using this approach along with recruiting at a high level, roster retention and understanding the simplest of simple basics of PR are not mutually exclusive.

That is all admirable...

Winning is the most important thing though...If you can't win it doesn't matter how respectable you are you will not be celebrated.

If we make the NCAA next season I will be patient to wait and see. If we don't, then I won't be as patient. It is really that simple.

Good philosophy - if the program is successful. I'd give any coach 4 yrs to get his system installed with his guys & to produce reasonable success. I've said this before, I'm ambivalent on Tubby or any other Memphis coach. They are paid to do a job & if they do it well, they have my support. If it takes 4 yrs, I have the patience to see it through without complaining during the process. After 4 yrs, yeah with little ability to see improvement in the program, it time to move on. No hard, got to do this or achieve that, just good steady progress & then evaluate the progress after 4 yrs......and pull for the team & the coach during those yrs.

I give Tubby until the end of year three to make the NCAA Tourney. It is the minimal initial performance standard at Memphis based on past history.

If we get an at large to the NCAA's next season Tubby will be National coach of the year.

You may not get to be patient

For me 3 years basketball...4 years football...But either way their must be visible signs of moving in the right direction along the way. We cant be having Poter-esque level play and expect to be patient and the end of last season was Porter-esque and if next season is similar to the end of this one he should be gone

Easier to fix basketball.
