Good game. Very impressive.

Still concerned about the depth of quality pitching, but the Jags go a long way to answer for that with a lineup that can post crooked numbers on anyone.

Carr is a pretty good pitcher for tomorrow but after that you're right. Not even sure who might get the 3rd start. Calvi has a pretty good nose for pitching though. He threw a guy (Trimble) that hasn't played much against MSU in our first win over them and he threw a gem.

Huston was our #2 guy and definitely has potential, but I think he was playing hurt and didn't say anything, and his numbers reflected it. He only pitched twice in May, and went from pitching 5.0, 8.0, 6.2, 7.0, 7.0, 9.0, and 5.1 innings to 2.1, 6.2, 2.1, and 3.0. He might be able to be used as a closer if he is over his minor injury.

I'm pulling for USA and you guys deserve every bit of the auto bit... just having a tough time looking at a fatally flawed RPI index, a selection committee's undying allegiance to said system, and a GS team that - even after winning 38 games and finishing above .500 against the top half of the Sun Belt - apparently couldn't even be considered for a 4-seed.

Maybe I'll try to calm down as I watch both ACC 1-seeds fall and convince myself that getting that sixth or seventh at-large from the conference into the mix was totally the right call.

My saltiness about that game just makes me want South to win the regional even more.

That, and South beating Southern Miss in their regional would be a great way to cap off the sports year after doing better than CUSA in both football and basketball.

Congrats USA. Almost every year, there are wins like this in the NCAA tournament, yet every year, teams like Georgia Southern, Louisiana and Old Dominion get left out for these SEC teams that have high RPI numbers simply cause they play other SEC teams. I remember one year, an SEC team didn't even qualify for the SEC tournament, yet received an NCAA at-large. Couldn't even qualify for play for a conference tournament, but the committee decided that the team in question deserved to play for a national title.

Keep it up Jags!

Calvi told us after the GS game that Huston was battling a sore arm and that it was a factor in him not getting the start in that game.

Yeah, I don't really know the nature of the injury but I think it's a minor nagging injury because I think it presented in the Arkansas State game where he only lasted 2.1 innings and gave up somewhere around 4,000 runs and he hasn't been the same. I was hoping he would be ready to go for postseason.

Funny thing is MSU fans were talking crap about Randy Bell on their board, ragging on our team, talking about "when" they win and play USM, and now post-game are saying them losing to us is an embarrassment. USM does have the #4 scoring offense in the country, but USA is #7, so pick your poison. By the way MSU, that same pitcher threw a complete game against you and won.

Now they are blaming the loss on injuries. But all teams, including the Jags, have them, and we've had our fair share this year. They have been insufferable towards USM fans about them hosting and I'm glad they got a piece of humble pie. Come on UIC!

Georgia Southern actually has a much better standing in the eyes of most of its P5 rivals (just lumping you in with Mississippi since any Gulf state can reasonably be expected to be both good and enthusiastic about its baseball team). Georgia Tech has had our number recently, but many of our wins against them have come against their better teams. They also consistently field their best lineup against us and have consistently renewed their 1-and-1 contract with us over the last decade.

UGA got cold feet for a few years after we beat up on them too much. But they're 4-2 against us over the last two years, so I guess that helps the team in that they'll have a few SEC games guaranteed each year since UGA isn't snaking away at the moment.

I respect the Louisiana and Mississippi schools for having such great fan bases and crowds, but they should know better than anyone about getting too confident. Any team is unstoppable if their pitcher (good, bad, mediocre, etc.) is hitting his spots and a few plays are made behind him. To preemptively dismiss a college baseball team coming off of a conference tournament win is to invite disaster.

I'm betting its Arguelles. I think Calvi knows our lineup well enough.

Braley will be on the mound for us. He threw well against South midweek in the first game before being moved to the weekend rotation.

I can only remember one year where I thought the Cajuns got snubbed and that was in 2006. The next year we had an RPI of 16. Other than that, we've gotten in when we deserved it.

The solution is easy. Win more games. (BTW, every team with 40 wins got in the tournament this year. That's not always the case, though.)

Yea, the SIXTH place team in the Atlantic 10 (which is NOT a good baseball league), which hadn't won a NCAA baseball tournament game in 113 years of playing, that funds baseball with a grand total of 3.5 full scholarships divided among the team (at a school that costs $67,000 a year) playing at the number 2 team in the country, absolutely crushed UNC. Easily the biggest upset of the year.

It's looking like the rain will continue to be a factor in the postseason. It's looking pretty dicey today in Hattiesburg.

They always have an excuse for losing. Missed field goals, players didn't play well (I like that one), players couldn't "get up" for this game, injuries to pitchers, injuries to batters, etc. They are the Hilary Clinton of college athletics....

Sorry for the political reference, I couldn't resist.
