Is Mitchell gonna protest their loss to Trezevant in last year's State Playoff game? Have you seen the former Principal's allegations regarding bogus enrollment numbers provided to the TSSAA by the Head Coach so they would stay in 2A instead of moving to 4A? Grade and transcript forgery and paying players' families? This is gonna get ugly. And now the former Trezevant coach is at Melrose. I'm gonna pull out all my old emails and texts I received from Roy when he was helping Gary Parrish build a case against LY, Thompson, Lang and Kirk. Haven't read about all that in a while. Some things never change. I know Wayne Weedon is definitely a lot happier now enjoying retirement down in AL, for sure.

Calkins has quoted the statistic in the past that only 2.6%, IIRC, of those raised below the poverty level in Shelby County escape poverty as adults. Grinding, generational poverty. And these administrators almost guarantee that result for these kids by not preparing them in any way to join a 21st century workforce.

Athletics should be the lever to motivate these kids in the classroom, not a reason to falsify their academic record.

It isn't solely in the hands of the administrators. For those of us who grew up differently we had support from our families, mostly parents. We had to come home from school and complete our homework before heading out to play, etc. So many of these kids are not being prepared at home to do anything but become another statistic. In way too many cases in this type of environment, school is nothing but a free daycare for parents.

I just hope Orentheus Taylor doesn't become collateral damage. He's a former Dyersburg and Tenn St. wide receiver who left my alma mater (JCM) when they closed the doors for good last year. He got a ringing endorsement from Ronnie Mackin after Teli White hit the road for Melrose.

If your child is coming home with A's and B's on their report card it is much more difficult to come down too hard on them for not performing in school.

Most of those kids are in for a rude awakening when they take the ACT though.

Some of the accusations don't add up though. One being the enrollment numbers. Might be more to the story than just 1 man's word.

I agree. The TSSAA would check more than the coach's numbers. Makes me wonder what the ex-Principal knows in order for him to include that in his laundry list. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. You know UCF is paying close attention as well as the NCAA. He even listed Dan Brooks from Clemson as one of the schools recruiting a "high profile" prospect. Doesn't take much imagination to figure out who that one is.

When those responsible for administering it are willing to own up to the problems instead of circling the wagons. The Memphis City Schools dumped 3 decades of mismanagement on the County after they finally ran it into the ground and surrendered their charter.
