Well, it's a bad football team on the decline, and a lot of the hot button topics from the past few years have kind of played themselves out.

There is no point debating Big 12 inclusion any longer - that ship has sailed. Everyone has finally accepted that Coach Carey is an awful head coach, so those arguments have curtailed. P.J. Fleck has moved on to bigger and better things, so we won't see WMU threads any longer. The Huskies couldn't even muster a bowl appearance last season, so we had no bowl talk or controversies to engage us.

A quarterback controversy is typically fodder for some good posting; yet when all of the potential candidates make us cringe, it kind of brings a collective yawn. Finally, NIU is lacking star power going into this season. Big profile players excite the ranks. We have no high wattage guys to intrigue us.

All in all, it's depressing as we move into the fall season. The Huskie program that we all have been very proud of for the past fifteen years has regressed dramatically.

Sadly, there is not that much to talk about.

What do my Broncos look like from a Huskie point of view in 2017/18? Are any of you familiar with our new OC from Indiana? How do you think he'll use our veteran backfield and OLine? Do you think he'll roll with the established athlete at QB in Tom Flacco?

I think we could run a Jordan Lynch-type offense pretty effectively this year. Do you think there'll be much of a drop-off from last year?

Fleck was the Music Man. Lester is probably a better X's and O's coach...but he's not the Music Man. This is one interesting transition.

If there is indifference at NIU within the NIU 'fanbase', then there is far more indifference from NIU perspective towards WMU.

I see it as a two team battle between WMU and Toledo, with Toledo going all the way.

Always has been and always will be. That's what happens when you do proper marketing and put something in the pockets of the right people in the media.

It's the off-season. Can't we all just play nice & respect each other for once? Nothing else going on right now.

I like this description of PJ Fleck. Calling him the Music Man is right on the mark. 04-cheers

I feel "crickets" and zero excitement for the upcoming season. Two Saturday home games will do that. Even to a person who WAS addicted to Huskie football. I just can't muster up any excitement. I usually try to be positive with my posts... but sadly I just can't feel positive right now.

*sigh*

Well, you shouldn't feel guilty for not being able to make the games. The mission of all these midweek games is to increase exposure through the national TV coverage. So, if you stay home and watch the game on TV, you're helping to satisfy the mission.

There is ONE thing I am very excited about and that is the Diesel Memorial. It is going to be amazing!

The Diesel Memorial Project is still working on fundraising. So if any of you have some spare change in a coffee can someplace & are close to DeKalb, the DMP bank account is at 1st National Bank of DeKalb. We welcome anything you can spare. Just stop in and tell them you have $$ for the Diesel Memorial Project. :-)

And FYI - this memorial is meant to honor ALL live mascots for NIU - Diesel, Mission when he retires, and future mascots. :-)

04-cheers
