No one can wave a magic wand over a team in a single year and cure all of its ills that Minnesota and Texas Tech had faced.

Check Bartow's first year.

He pretty much walked into Finch and Robinson. Iba recruited them but never got to coach them due to the freshman ineligibility rule in place back then.

Just responding to the 1 year magic wand comment.

Finch and Robinson were unproven sophomores. Finch was the key while Robinson was not considered a top recruit but blossomed under Bartow.

Went from 6-20 to 18-8 and were playing for the conference title the last week of the season while playing in the tough MVC.

Bartow was also very good with the PR. Very personable unlike the current coach.

1970-71 was the year I became a tigers fan at the tender age of 15.

We are close in age. I was 14 at the time.

Ok, I can identify my peer group of posters here. I was 13 during the 70-71 season. That was the start of a nice run. My freshman year was 74-75.
