Bruce has been great for Toledo but he is #7-10 or so by people who have closely followed the program. Long should be #2, Curtis J #4

Aren't the people in the athletic department ultimately doing these rankings?

They didn't play safe in their senior season to protect themselves for a hopeful future in The League--as some of the guys in more recent years were obviously doing. Whether that is right or wrong is debatable, but you have to give the guys who left it all on the field every game credit for what they did.

I love Lance as he has had maybe the best NFL career for a guy who gets the ball from Toledo.... But there wasn't a thing he could do as a volume receiver that Eric Page could not. EP did it in the return game as well. SO WELL, that he was an All American. In 3 years he was our reception leader for a career. A bonehead agent getting into a young guy's head fudged up EP's image but doesn't taint his ability and history as a Rocket. I'm not preaching for him to be top 5. The guys ahead are all deserving! In my own humble opinion though, he was the best player in a UT uniform that I have watched.

Meant no disrespect or argument against your evaluation. Unfortunately we never got to see what EP could do in The League or as a senior at TOL.

Agree to that. Has an NFL TD though.

Page doesn't have one during the regular season according to NFL stats. 4 catches for 68 yards and a 17ypg avg. Had a lot of kick-off and punt returns, but also has 3 fumbles on the returns and lost 2 of them. Always had a chance for a score from anywhere on the field when he was in the game at Toledo.
Punt return TD. I watched it on monday or sunday or thursday night football.

Honorable mention All-American; 1st team all-MAC; MAC POY; MAC championship game MVP; GMAC Bowl MVP; 1st all-time at UT in passing yards total offense, TD passes, completions and attempts; Had held another 5 or 10 records until they were broken by Woodside in 2016; Threw 6 TD passes in a game - twice; Still hold MAC record for career completion percentage at 68.2%; 9th in MAC history in TD passes; NCAA record holder for highest passer rating in a game (with 25 or more attempts) at 317.4 in the 2003 game against Buffalo (23-25 for 435 yards, 6 TDs and 0 INTs)

Drafted in the 6th round by Tampa Bay; Played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Bucs, Browns, Raiders, Bengals and Steelers. Started 20 games, 4057 career passing yards, 21 TD passes. Retired this past off-season.

Not according to stats at nfl.com. Had a 52 yard punt return against the Dolphins, but not for a TD. He got more press for the personal foul penalty he got in that game than the punt return

In an absolute shocker, Chuck Ealey, of all people, was named the best player in Rocket history. Almost unimaginable. What were the voters thinking?

...and I have his "game worn" redshirt season jersey hanging in my basement - along with a replica Ealey #16 jersey signed by Chuck Ealey (thanks to RangerRocket for getting that done for me).

Ealey, Long, Taylor & Bruce are the only ones left.

Current players weren't eligible, so no Woodside.

I still can't believe Page was 11. Some folks must still be ticked about him leaving early. My top 5 would have been Ealey, Long, Page, Hunt, Gradkowski.

Gradkowski doesn't impress by the numbers for MAC standards. He was famous and he played on some good teams, but it's almost embarrassing to say he is in our top 5 ever. Woodside will have better numbers if he stays on anything close to last years pace.

I agree. Page was the best Toledo player I've ever watched.

To have Chester ahead of Kareem is iffy too... How many times did Terry Swanson clean up a drive with a 3 yard rushing TD. TD's are the only real difference. For the carries Hunt didn't get he made up in receptions I guess. The 5 TD bowl performance against stAte is my deciding factor. Chester did beat PSU though.

Chester: 803 carries. 4646 yards. 5.8 average. 55 rush TD's. 61 receptions. 554 rec yards. 5 rec TD's.
Hunt: 782 carries. 4995 yards. 6.3 average. 44 rush TD's. 73 receptions. 555 rec yards. 1 rec TD.

Chester didn't get many carries in his freshman year since he was backing up both Wasean Tait and at the start of the season - Dwayne Harris. Taylor did lead the league in yds/carry but only had around 500 yards or so. Tait was not nearly the same back and settled for around 700yds in a courageous comeback after sitting out for essentially 2 full seasons.

That's a Freshman football Jersey, correct? Freshmen weren't eligible until 1972(Marshall was given the exception in 1971).

35-0! Thirty-Five and 0! Almost nothing else I can say compares to that. But here goes.

1st team all-American. 8th in Heisman voting (1st MAC player to ever receive votes); 3 time 1st team All-MAC; 3 time MAC offensive POY; 2 time Tangerine bowl MVP; UT jersey retired;

At the time, set most every career QB record for Toledo. Many of those were broken by Swick, but some stood a lot longer, like career TD passes, which stood for 25 years; First UT player to pass for 2000 yards in a season; Still in the top 10 for most categories.

In addition to his undefeated college career, was also undefeated as a starting QB in HS.

Went on to play for Hamilton, Winnipeg and Toronto in the CFL. Led Hamilton to the Grey Cup in 1972 (his rookie year) and was MVP of the Grey Cup game; CFL rookie of the year; Threw for more than 13,000 yards and 82 TDs in his 7 year CFL career. Also rushed for nearly 4,000 yards and scored 19 rushing TDs.

All-time great, and an absolutely outstanding human being.
