How in the hell did they go backwards like that. Some guy wearing a red goat hat saying let's make Iran great again? Boggles the mind.

In Afghanistan it was when the leftists overthrew the monarchy in 1973.

In Iran it was when the leftists helped the Islamists overthrow the Shah.

Sucks what religious fundamentalism does in any variety.

Cuba is a great example that is closer to home

I have seen old Afghan and Iranian photos when they embraced Western culture. Imagine how the dynamic of the Middle East would be different if we had a pro-West and secular Iran and Afghanistan. Turkey was our biggest hope, but under Erdogan, not so sure that that society remains as once known, either.

Poster removed by the progressive mayor of London because it offended feminist values...

The real ironic thing Mach, is that the progressives are the new segregationist, the new dress code pushers......

The problem in Iran was that there were really TWO Irans. There was the Iran of North Teheran and the urban centers....and the Iran that was largely untouched by the economic boom created by oil. Much of the economic benefits from that oil economy went exclusively to a corrupt cadre of insiders and all many people saw from the Shah's regime was the Savak.

Now, its true that the Islamic Republic is just as brutal and corrupt (probably more so) and not really democratic either....but the people in 1979 didn't know that. That's the problem with revolutions....you never know how they'll turn out....Apres Moi...Le Deluge.

No one liked the Shah...Even those that didn't want the Islamic Republic.

This wasn't left or right. Khomeini's strongest supporters came from the merchant class (the bazaaris). The first group to split off from Khomeini was the Tudeh ( the leftists)

Radical Islam is the most destructive ideology ever conceived. It despises progress of any sort.
