good. I don't want to think like that...I don't ever want to think of diversity as a negative.
Again, you don't have a clue. I've seen two managers whose native language is not english argue in english over something they actually agreed on but were both unable to understand. It wastes time and money in business.
From UC Berkley study:
Negative Impacts of Workplace Diversity
- Unresolved Conflict
- Poor Communication
- Turnover
- Time and Money
Quote:IT HAS BECOME increasingly popular to speak of racial and ethnic diversity as a civic strength. From multicultural festivals to pronouncements from political leaders, the message is the same: our differences make us stronger.
But a massive new study, based on detailed interviews of nearly 30,000 people across America, has concluded just the opposite. Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam -- famous for "Bowling Alone," his 2000 book on declining civic engagement -- has found that the greater the diversity in a community, the fewer people vote and the less they volunteer, the less they give to charity and work on community projects. In the most diverse communities, neighbors trust one another about half as much as they do in the most homogenous settings. The study, the largest ever on civic engagement in America, found that virtually all measures of civic health are lower in more diverse settings.
Thanks buddy. Great fodder for that daily water cooler discussion.

Based on my current work experience grammar and spelling are not as important as they used to be. Diversity is more important.

I'm glad I'm old. I can't imagine what life will be like in 50 years when millennial's kids run the planet.

RE: From Go Joe Bruin-Early Look at Memphis-UCLA
I had a really great professor at St. Petersburg College who was a Humanaties teacher. She had been teaching for about 30 plus years and was really big on semantics and communication and how it works. We spent a lot of time studying it and people like Professor S I Hayakawa. Anyway, one thing I took away from that class was "It is the duty of the initial communicator to make sure that the person they are speaking to understands the message." In other words, when you explain something it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure the person you are talking to understands what you said. In many cases, you may have to say it again with a different choice of words to make sure that the message is clear and understandable. Given the situation, it can help communications by simply asking, "Can you please repeat back what I just said to you?" This is important in determining if the message you sent, was properly heard and received. Being able to have a good vocabulary and being able to communicate your message in English from several aspects, is probably not a bad idea.
