Random Thoughts From Bearcat Nation
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. When does football camp start?

Post your random thoughts on anything Cincinnati Bearcats here. I remember throwing an aerobie on Nippert's turf with my Daniels Hall mates back in 1987. I also remember the 17 year cicada outbreak on campus that same year and students were carrying badminton and tennis rackets to class. You could hear girls screaming as they were swarmed or dive bombed. Damn winged, black things with red eyes were everywhere. We had a nerd genius on our dorm floor and one of his roommates let loose a jar full of 'em in his bed while he was sleeping. The screams were unreal. I need a large Adriaticos right now.

RE: Random Thoughts From Bearcat Nation
Brilliant topic. Keeping it random, and keeping it next door to Adriatico's (I believe), I first hung out on campus in the late 80s, when I was still in high school. Some UC students we knew from Anderson were somehow involved with Mr. Tuxedo on W. McMillan. They used throw all-you-can-drink parties ($3? $5?) that were heavily populated with east side high school kids. I was 16, and looked 12, but was somehow allowed to hang out and imbibe. For some reason, that memory came back to me this weekend. I'm also pretty sure that rath was behind those parties.

Ok. I'll confess. Daniels Hall was like living in freegin' Amsterdam. I don't know how I survived my freshman year but I did manage to get some studying in too. How the young body recovered from a night of partying in those days was a marvel to behold that won't ever be seen again. As a 19 year old I definitely took on my vices. I have long been reformed - thank the Lord.

Oh, and for all the morons that pulled the effin fire alarm at 3 AM during cold weather - you really sucked! I remember a few times we ignored the alarm and stayed in our rooms because it happened so frequently.

My first game at the Shoe as a student was in December, 1990 against Michigan State and we lost by two. I remember Jud Heathcote got heckled by the crowd on his way out after the game ended.

12 Floors to Heaven - Calhoun Hall 1981. Practical jokes went to a unmerciful level that destroyed property, injured people, started fights, broke-up couples, and created many a ransom note.

I still have post-Dorm stress syndrome and can't stand practical jokes to this day. But, man, it did make for some great stories.

Plus we had the privilege to have several basketball players on the floor including my good friend today Myron Hughes, and Doug Kecman, Junior Johnson, and (RIP my friend) Mark Dorris.

Nothing like teeing off a real golf ball down those hallways yelling "four". And those poor bastards that we pennied in for an entire weekend after we took away their telephone.

The late 80's was a good bar scene. Once Ohio went full blown 21, even for beer, I think it hurt the University area. Seemed people took off for Mt. Adams a lot more and bypassed campus area bars, not all of them but a lot. Next to Uncle Woody's was that Inner Circle? What was the Bar on W. Clifton Ave between Calhoun and McMillan? I think it is Chipolte now?

In my freshman year I was doing laundry and there was a freshman football player there as well. The frosh did not play varsity then. I do not remember how that worked for them as to games - but I commented on how badly we needed a QB. He told me they frosh had a good one. That "good one" turned out to be Greg Cook.

RE: Random Thoughts From Bearcat Nation
Went to a graduation party in a Cleveland suburb yesterday. Ran into parents of a kid considering going to Cincinnati, Ohio State or Ohio U for engineering (the parents both went to Bowling Green but were wearing O$U football gear). The kid was leaning to Cincinnati because of the co-op program. For the first time in a couple of years we and our daughters were asked if the neighborhood was "safe". My girls gave them a rousing recommendation.

Sweet Lord Ripley's. Crawled out of there a few times back then. IIRC I believe another frequent haunt was Uncle Woody's on Calhoun closer to Clifton Ave.
