RE: Southern Miss Hosting
Very, very excited.

Like most USM students and recent alums, I didn't get to experience 2003. Can't wait to get out to PTP this weekend.

Congrats. Sounds like Mississippi State is beat up so here's to hoping they are the 2 seed in your region.

Looks like Houston is hosting also - does Rice go there?

How much do they care about regular season rematches? If they wanted to avoid those LSU or Texas Tech could be the destination. Otherwise Houston or Fort Worth could happen.

A UH-Texas-Rice regional may be simply too attractive and profitable to pass up. Guaranteed sell out. And UH's worst nighmare. :--)

As attractive as that sounds I don't know if the NCAA would send Ms State here. On twitter our associate AD stated we would not sell over 6k tickets due to safety reasons. I believe our stadium record is right around 5,500 which was this year so realistically that's near max capacity. With visiting teams only allotted 200 tickets in games they participate I could see State petitioning the NCAA to send them somewhere else to avoid the headache of not having enough tickets. Granted the same allotment would be in affect wherever they go I don't see them coming here and having that headache. But yet the NCAA has no problem sending us to a LSU, Ms State or Ole Miss where we run into that same issue.

Reading a post from one of MSU's boards and it's amazing the entitlement their fans feel about them only being allowed 200 tickets even though it's a NCAA rule and they do the same thing at their place when they host. I do like our ticket policy for the regional in that "Eagle Club" members and season ticket holders get 1st priorities based off your donation level. After that faculty and staff that aren't season ticket holders or Eagle Club members are allowed 2 tickets each. Lastly and the one I think is genius is that the final ticket priority level are those who purchase 2018 baseball season tickets are allowed 2 tickets. Considering we open up at home next year vs Ms State I could see some of them buying season tickets next year just to get tickets to this year's regional if on fact they come here.

RE: Southern Miss Hosting
Because we don't run into that same issue. They have double if not triple our capacity and the last time we traveled to LSU in 08, we brought one section and that was it. Fans didn't purchase the random tickets on Stub Hub or anything. We can look at the LSU games in Nola a few years back and it wasn't close who had the vast majority of the stadium filled.

We aren't a concern because we won't bring 5,000 wherever we go. They'll bring 10k on that short a trip.

I hope you get MSU and I hope you stomp them into the ground. Playing those dumbasses and their cowbells in the Liberty bowl was awful. I was amazed at how a terrible athletic department had such obnoxious fans.

State people are complete degenerates. Just nasty fans.

A lot worse than Ole Miss IMO. OM fans are obnoxious and smug, but I at least know people that attend/attended OM that are good, decent people. I don't know a single MSU person that I really respect at all.

RE: Southern Miss Hosting
Both fanbases have fans that can be just awful, but most I know from OM and State are good people. They'll brag and give SEC crap sometimes, but they also will give respect (at least to me) when USM does well. The problem is that the obnoxiousness spews from the vocal ones and it is incredibly annoying. I don't want State in Hattiesburg. Their fans would be awful to deal with at the game. Leading up to it though, I'd probably get told it'll be a tough regional and good luck (whether they truly believed it or not). Beagle, I think you've met a bad crop of State fans or something.

We rode a bus to that game and back. We were the only Owls on the bus. The fans were nice people coming and going. I did want to melt down every (*&#%^ cowbell in the )_(&% stadium, though. And that was the coldest I've been ever.

With the cowbell situation, State came to USM 2 football seasons ago and USM "banned" cowbells in the stadium. I still remember all the trash cans full of cow bells while entering and leaving the stadium. There were a few that people got in but the amount that didn't was a sight to see. State fans are still mad about that night. They did have the opportunity to get them out of the trash cans when exiting the stadium.

I did find it hilarious that the USM website specifically names cowbells as banned items.

I'm bracing myself for Sept 9 at the Joe. Artificial noisemakers are supposed to be banned, but some McNeese State fan had one at the Love Shack and no one did a thing about it. Hopefully the Joe will be stricter on it.

I agree it was their own fault as we sent out notice that they were banned. I thought it was hilarious hearing the fans whine/complain when they got to the ticket entrance and realized we were serious about it and then seeing them in the trash cans....Then afterwards seeing their fans digging through the trash cans trying to find theirs.

Based off several reliable twitter feeds USM is down to approximately 200 or so "standing room only" tickets. To my knowledge there was never an official number given as to how many tickets would be sold, only that it would be capped before it reached 6k for safety reasons. Most people are guessing around 5500 as that was the largest home attendance for the season.

I just checked online to see what I could buy and there were 0 GA tickets available.
