Baseball Stadium Renovation
Mississippi State unveiled a master plan for a new baseball facility project ( an ambitious $40 million facility project). Maybe Toledo could take a few ideas from MSU when UT builds a new stadium on campus...or just drop the baseball program and put that money towards renovating the Glass Bowl.

"that money"
What portion of the money is allocated towards the baseball stadium?

Not sure, but it's just wishful thinking for me.

For me it would be the sports that could get the most return for the least. This is a hockey town. Has been always. This is a wrestling and fighting town that has lost its way. Women's hockey and wrestling are potential gateway sports for a university. Track and Field is seriously under valued in this city, yet it's a career in Europe. Crew has the toughest regimen of many sports yet it's generaly just "club." UT already has a fairly successful boating club of some sort, like to see them move up in Crew. Lacrosse has been mentioned. Columbus St is in the finals, showing the strength of Ohio Prep LaCrosse. A very good prep team a few hundred yards away from UT campus. I'd like to see UT support development of those leagues because let's face it, football's life is measured.

I think that stadium is a little big considering we only get a few hundred fans for a game.

RE: Baseball Stadium Renovation
College baseball in the Great Lakes region is a tough gig. The only northern schools ranked in the Top 25 this year have been St Johns University and Michigan.
Toledo is a hockey town but in the last four years 6 of 18 high schools in the Northwest Ohio Hockey Conference have canceled their teams. However, a partnership with the Walleye and Promedica Sports Medicine could offset costs for near or on-campus ink rink. See Pittsburgh Penquins and the UPMC http://www.upmclemieuxsportscomplex.com/
Crew and sailing teams are an interesting idea as, like track and field, both are super flexible sports where we can start small build our way up. We have the facilities (Maumee River and Lake Erie) just seven miles from campus. Either could be a Title IX balancer.

If college baseball was played in the summer, it might work in the north. We need 16 sports so if we dropped baseball, we would need to add a sport. If we added a women's sport, it would bring us into greater title ix compliance. If we added a men's sport, track and field makes most sense. Otherwise we could replace baseball with soccer, lax, or wrestling. Adding hockey would be too costly.

Just saw this on twitter. You beat me to punch
The key is to make it a multipurpose facility. Campus recreation. Student use as well
I always thought that one MAC school should have built an indoor baseball faculty and schedule early season games there. Pick a centrally located school for all to travel to and build excitement for the game
If not that build heat in the stands. And the field has to drain well
As for other sports I wanted the field house to be converted to an ice arena
Now with limited resources I say drop baseball and add men's lacrosse. They would not need a stadium or separate practice facilities

A nice, small stadium, turf baseball field would be great. They could then host HS games/tournaments in the spring, summer, and fall. Look at how many games are held at Mercy Field (CCHS and Lourdes Univ) throughout the year. If they get HS teams/tournaments, it would be great publicity for the university.
Maybe partner with St. Francis since they are so close and make it a home field for both?

Historically, perhaps more than any other sport, Toledo has always been a baseball town. But baseball in NW Ohio in the Spring is a tough sell. Like beer and hot dogs, Baseball and Summer in Toledo are a natural match.

"Summer" unfortunately. Has baseball ever been a university strong sell here? The idea of an "in-door" baseball stadium is intriguing (from a speculative POV). It would make sense to have at least ONE in NW Ohio. Is even a small one, feasible?
Other sports natural to the area, "drunk boating." "Drunk Fishing." "Drunk Bowling." Oh wait, that's redundant. Cigarette smuggling. Underachieving. We should maybe concentrate on those sports where low score wins? Certainly we have a golfing history here.
