UTA finishes two points behind USA for the second time in three years.

The Mavericks athletic department is already behind the 8-ball in sponsoring only 14 of a possible 18 sports, three behind USA and two behind Texas State.

We have a normally strong tennis and golf program that netted a combined 12 points as the men's tennis team suffered the only upset in the tourney among either gender. The golf team finished the worst they have in 25 years.

Otherwise, the only sport that scored less than eight is softball, and they showed marked improvement finishing in the top half of the conference.

At least next year we will field a women's golf team in conference play.

I was very conflicted about all of this. One the one hand props to UTA for doing so well with so few sports. I would prefer a football school win the Bubas but I admire any school doing as good as UTA did with the number of sports sponsored.

I was really wanting TxSt to take the Bubas late in the season (once App State was out of the running, which was the case as soon as fall sports was over.) but that was also requiring me to root for GaSo in the baseball championship and I threw up a bit in my mouth having to do that.

To be the only school to sponsor every sport and finish so low... not a good year for App athletics.

Coastal tied for 4th in our first year and without football? I'll take it!

Women's basketball killed us this year...well that and Women's Tennis where we went like 0-30

Men's and women's basketball almost sunk us.

Geez 1 point away, I'm so sick of being let down by our football team. They cost us our first cup this year.

At least you can also blame your women's soccer, women's tennis or baseball teams too. They didn't finish last, but they did finish poorly.

We have our men's golf program to blame. Haven't finished this low in the standings (second to last) since the early 1990's. A middle of the pack finish and we hoist the cup.

To be fair, its not like USA got a bunch of points out of FBS. We finished 2-6 in the Belt last year.

And our women's basketball...5-13

Men's basketball ... 7-11

Softball...15-12
