Power out all over Memphis this morning....
Took 240/55 to Riverside and S. Main this morning. Power out all over. Race delayed an hour. Wife said, "no way". Drove back to hotel via Union and Poplar and traffic lights out the whole way up to Goodlett. Trees down everywhere. Must have been a heckuva storm but I slept through the whole thing. We left Beale at 9:45 last night and it was still wall to wall people.

Storm blew in soon after 10:30PM or so. It really did tear up the place, according to TV this AM. It was a hell of a storm.

I am at Pickwick Lake and the thunderbolts shook the house. I did not see any reports of casulties in the CA, thankfully.

Poppaslaw and Bluto may need to borrow a chainsaw from somebody this morning just to navigate their respective skreets.

my power went out this morning at 10am, just after somebody hit a transformer in their car. They picked a bad time to hit a random pole. 03-banghead

Like sports scores, it takes about two days to show up in print now.

Memphis Light Gas and Robberies fault.
This aint the first time they've had power outages, because tree branches are too close to the power lines. I lived thru 3 of the outages...and no more. We may have an outage or so every blue moon up north...but it isn't because of trees near the power lines.

Something tells me this may be a scheme of sorts....kickbacks for MLG&W from tree trimming services. Wouldn't surprise me a bit,

You mean MLG&W will take kickbacks to pay tree trimming services to clear trees?

just supposing.
It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened in the world.
What other reason could be given for them NOT clearing branches away after all the power outages they have had over the years?
In times past, people have died because of that (power outages).

RE: Power out all over Memphis this morning....
in cases of where trees topple and clear out the power lines...not much can be said about that.....but I lived in Memphis for most of my life. LOTS of areas of town with branches hanging right over the power lines.
Preventative maintenance might ease how many people go without power in a storm.

There were 200 year old Oak Trees bigger around than my pickup lying across Peabody Ave. in between Bellevue & Cleveland.

Also on W. Snowden Circle in Mid-Town.

No amount of Tree Trimming could stem the effect of over 100 mph straight sheer winds.

Wow!!!! Might want to sober up before you post on here. Kickbacks? Tree limbs causing damage in a town known for the amount of trees. Imagine that happening in a storm like what happened Saturday night.

Most of us former Memphians living in western Kentucky brought our brains with us when we left. This one didn't.

All these mentions of Hurricane Elvis due to this weekend's storm get me nostalgic. I named it that. I was calling it that on the predecessor of this board and the Grizz message board the day of the storm. It caught on; still used 14 years later.

Hope everyone is alright.
