No band had a greater influence on many of our musical journeys through life for those growing up in the 1970s than the ABB. We have lost Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman in the last year. It is heavy on my heart right now. They opened the door to so much music that we might never have know otherwise. Gregg wrote so many classic songs and interpreted the blues greats so well. The ABB were along with the GD the original jam bands. They spawned so many other configurations and helped develop several of the great guitarists of the 21st, including Jimmy Herring, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. The greatest live album of all time (IMHO) was Filmore East and the greatest comeback album could well be Brothers and Sisters.

One of the best of all time. I still love their music. Hopefully he is reunited with Duane right about now.

Followed Them from 31st of February, Hour Glass,Allman Joys and then Allman Brothers . They came from Florida to Georgia then on to become Americas band. Very few can say They did it right through out their careers but Gregg and His crew sure did. The Legend They left will be around for generations to come. R.I.P. Gregg

Here is an amazing version of Ramblin man from 1971. This is some 6+ months before the song was ever recorded in the studio. Dickie Betts solo here is just amazing.

Gregg was born in Nashville, I did not know that. This one hurts.

Saw him last year at Booth in Cary NC. He was awesome. Did a rendition of "Melissa" that brought tears to my eyes.

Some great songs for sure. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Jimmy Carter has said that Gregg Allman almost single-handedly helped him win the White House. Well at the very least, he did a ton of early fundraisers for Carter when he was still pretty much a nobody in Georgia. Just another reason to give him mad props.

Just pulling some chains. RIP.

Damn, just hearing of this. Will never forget the one Allman Brothers concert I attended. It seemed like each song was 30 minutes long.
