MyBB What's Ben Howland doing at State??
2 years in Starkville. 30-33 overall, 13-23 in the SEC.

All that recruiting buzz...

Malik Newman, 5-star. Gone.
Mario Kegler, 4-star. Gone.
Eli Wright, 4-star. Gone.
Garrison Brooks, 4-star commit. Gone.

Thought he was gonna return State basketball back to prominence (not being sarcastic) ... not looking good.

He can recruit, he's just a terrible coach with a terrible system.

The guy got blown out by us in the final 4 with Westbrook, Love, Collison,, Mbah a Moute. 2 NBA stars and 2 legit nba players. He had so much talent that underperformed

Coaches that play a slow style get a pass for sucking at coaching longer than coached that allow a fast pace.

Dudes playing style is just boring...Surprised he was able to land the kids he did at MSU after that was known unless he was still selling the I took Westbrook from nothing to the NBA lottery story.

RE: What's Ben Howland doing at State??
Look at Howland's career arc. Years 1-2 have not been great at any of his stops but year 3 is when the jump is made.

As for the transfers, that just what college basketball is now. There are over 800 kids transferring this year alone.

The Garrison Brooks situation is different though. He wanted to be at MSU with his dad but mom would absolutely not allow it.

When Cal first got her he played the lower scoring defensive type games. Then changed when he started getting real talent.

A crappy 2 years and all his talent is bolting. Like I said, it's not going how I thought it would. I thought he'd have State competing at the top of the SEC by Year 3.

2 players have left. I would hardly say all his talent is bolting.

I'll post this again since you don't seem to understand. Every stop Howland has made year 3 is the jump. If we don't improve this year, I'll start to worry.

Don't care about ole miss basketball therefore I don't care about state basketball.

I thought Howland was a solid hire. He started making noise on the recruiting trail and I thought that it wouldn't be long until he got things going. Since then his teams have been absolutely terrible, his 2 best recruits has left the program, his best incoming freshman this year never made it, just not what I expected.

If people wanna hang their hat on what he's done at previous stops in Year 3, then I assume they also have no worries about Tubby/Memphis.

Yeah, my initial thought at Howland's hiring was "Uh Oh, look out for Mississippi State". It might happen, but the clock is ticking.
