Wink Swofford: would add 16th if ND joined
Brett McMurphy @Brett_McMurphy
ACC's John Swofford on @SiriusXMCollege: no conversation w/Notre Dame about joining but "if ever happens we'd look at adding another school"

http://gridironnow.com/acc-commissioner-...me-rumors/

Notre Dame began a 12-year football scheduling agreement with the conference in 2014, an agreement which has been extended 12 additional seasons. All Notre Dame sports teams for which the ACC sponsors a championship, aside from football, are already full members of the ACC.

These two facts and the increasing power of conferences to generate revenue in college athletics have led many to believe the Irish will eventually forego their independence and join the ACC.

Swofford’s comment about “adding another school” for divisional balance should the Irish come in is new, although not unexpected. UConn would be the most likely candidate to be mentioned for that 16th ACC spot due to its athletic and academic profile and geography.

However, if the ACC ever landed college football’s great green whale – Notre Dame – the increased value, branding and profile the Irish would bring the league would put it on an even footing with the Big Ten and SEC. Don’t rule out Texas as a potential ACC add if that were ever to happen. While geographically mismatched, Texas’ academic and athletic profile fit the ACC perfectly and the ACC could be more willing to acquiesce to Texas’ in finding a solution for how to accommodate its Longhorn Network than the SEC or Big Ten.

Swofford would steal the crown from Dlive as greatest college commissioner if he landed ND and Texas at 15 and 16. To be honest, if the ACC Network wanted max delivery and demand for launch in 2019, getting those to schools to commit prior to 2019 and then just waiting for them to fully join would still deliver the impact seemed by ESPN and the ACC.

If Texas goes to the ACC then I have to wonder what the SEC's response is to that.

Does that anger the SEC or do they not care that much as long as we're getting Oklahoma in the deal?

The SEC response would be plucking the best available talent leftover.

The last big fish available would be OU. If Texas does go to ACC, I would assume there would be a small pod of B12 schools moving too. ESPN wouldn't care as they would have the broadcast rights to all the games between the sec and ACC, minus cbs tier one.

How's this for the SEC and ACC carving up the B12:

SEC: OU, WVU, KU, VT,
ACC: ND, Texas, OSU, Tech, UConn

Each conference ends at 18. ND agrees to join ACC #15. Texas tells ACC they have a Tech problem. ESPN places OSU and Techin ACC. SEC adds OU and then WVU. B1G doesn't grab KU, Mizzou pushes their entry. SEC wants eastern addition to compliment. VIrginia Tech steps forward. ACC backfills with UConn.

I really didn't think that would happen but I'm okay with it. It would mean the Big 10 couldn't get into Texas and that might mean that they drop their pursuit of Oklahoma and Kansas.

I would love to see it get worked out this Summer so that realignment is a dead subject before the start of football this Fall. With no Texas to travel with Oklahoma will be forced to choose between leaving OSU behind or not.

Jr, we should not be communicating with XLance now. North Carolina is just rated as a "Knight" school. Auburn and Missouri are rated as "Baron" schools. Shouldn't he be kneeling or bowing now? lol03-lmfao (Just a joke X... I love UNC.)

You read that wrong Medic. It said that after the African American curriculum that UNC had been rated as a NIGHT SCHOOL, not a KNIGHT SCHOOL!

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina denied NCAA violations occurred with regard to its highly-scrutinized African and Afro-American Studies courses in its response to the NCAA’s third notice of allegations, which was released publicly on Thursday. The school also denied that a lack of institutional control occurred due to the lack of underlying violations.
The university based its opinion that no NCAA violations occurred in the AFAM classes on a variety on factors: (1) the courses were available to all students; (2) student-athletes were treated no differently than other students who took the courses; (3) the courses originated in the AFAM department and not the athletic department; (4) no one in the athletic department took improper advantage of the courses; and (5) the course issues were academic in nature and the result of inadequate academic oversight unrelated to the athletic department.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The independent study course scandals at Auburn and Michigan have long been obstacles for the NCAA enforcement staff in its investigation into the academic irregularities in North Carolina’s African and Afro-American Studies department. UNC officials brought those prior cases, along with other questionable courses the NCAA has overlooked, to the forefront in their response to the NCAA’s third notice of allegations.

The Barons will be accepting gifts and tributes next week. We take cash or credit cards. 10% of the proceeds will be donated back to the North Carolina Elective Studies Programs. May peace be in the kingdom.
