According to Michael Gerson, a former top aide to President George W. Bush as assistant to the president for policy and strategic planning.
Quote:The conservative mind, in some very visible cases, has become diseased. The movement has been seized by a kind of discrediting madness, in which conspiracy delusions figure prominently. Institutions and individuals that once served an important ideological role, providing a balance to media bias, are discrediting themselves in crucial ways. With the blessings of a president, they have abandoned the normal constraints of reason and compassion. They have allowed political polarization to reach their hearts, and harden them. They have allowed polarization to dominate their minds, and empty them.
Quote:Republicans have total control over 25 states outright and another two where they can override a Democratic governor’s vetoes. These 27 states cover 56 percent of the population. Meanwhile, Democrats have total control outright in a mere six states and veto-proof majorities to override a Republican governor in just two more. These eight Democratic-controlled states add up to only 19 percent of the population, or roughly one-third as much as Republicans control.

The writer seems disappointed that my deplorable vote counts just as much as those of the smart, curious, perpetually honest disease free people of the Beltway deep state.
Sorry, Michael. We know that this is just a way for you to signal that you can co-exist with the “right sort” of people– you know, the type that thinks exactly like you do - and that this article is a clever way of signifying of a certain kind of Beltway credibility.
Hopefully you get that Democrat Party or Never-Trumper cocktail party invite you are angling for here......

I love it when conservatives point to a map as proof that they are still popular when everyone knows that popularity comes from the people and not from the land.

Tom, do you realize that the same can be said for what the progressives have done to the democrats and liberals right? Once again this is not a conservative / liberal thing. It's a modern era thing.
The reason the dems have been booted from power at most every level is not because of some conservative mental disease, it's because they've had their own for 15 years (progressiveness) and they have refused to act on it.

I love it when liberals always point to popular vote as proof that more people wanted Hillary as President when everyone knows that the President is elected from the electoral vote, not from popularity.

Sounds just like the Democrats, upset they didn't get their way.
Trump didn't get nominated by the conservatives in the party. His supporters aren't particularly ideological. Its the never-Trumper conservatives who are diseased-people like Kristol. Just filled with hatred, kind of like a lot of Democrats.
Trump won. The Democrat's candidate didn't. The writer's didn't. My preferred ones didn't. Its still President Trump.
