Well he's right about thing. We were more than a WR. We also had a QB, two other very good WR's, and OT, kicker, etc.

USC is a Top 10 team next season. I drink the WMU kool aid as much as the next guy but we aren't going in there and surprising them.

This pretty much tells the truth... we aren't going to surprise them and in no universe I live in do I actually believe we get even close to winning this game...

Nah. I just see it as a message board poster trying his best to stir up interest in a game where USC will be heavy favorites. Maybe he believes it...... maybe not.

Frankly, I'll be surprised if we hang with them in week 1 under a new staff with some new moving parts.

I will say this... under PJ year one we didn't lay down on the road to a strong MSU team. I don't think we have a snowballs chance in h3ll but who knows.

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released
Week 1, anything can happen. I personally don't think WMU will come close to winning. Breaking in new QB, WRs, coaching staff, schemes. But it will be more competitive than most think. WMU's defense will be legit this year. All starting LBs and DBs are returning including playmakers like Spillane and Phillips. DL has a mix of experience and good, young talent. USC will have 3 new starting OL guys including both tackles. They also graduated their starting TE, 2 starting WRs and starting RB. I think 4 of those guys they lost on offense are on NFL rosters now. So USC's offense might not be polished in the first game of the season.

Who knows...we've still got 3 months of off-season for prognostication.

While I also do not think WMU will be competitive in this game, I am pleased and surprised our program is getting respect from fans of one of the legitimately elite P5 programs.

There is no way a Michigan fan would EVER post something similar. Heck, even Northwestern and Illinois fans think their ho-hum programs are too good to possibly lose to a lowly MAC team....

Even after losing to CMU three times, many Sparty fans still think WMU, CMU & EMU are at the same level as Ferris, GVSU and Hillsdale. A blissfully ignorant fan base in EL.

Refreshing to see a respectful post on the USC board after dealing with cringe worthy Pig10 fans over the years.

If we put up 37 points at USC, I'll be stunned.

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released
He makes a good point about having a big chip on the shoulder. We do, and should, and hopefully it's a huge motivator this year. WMU is still a Top-25 team IMO. We have brought in an excellent coaching staff, return an excellent core group of athletes, and I just don't see us getting blasted at USC like a lot are predicting. Winning? Likely not, but don't expect it to be a blowout.

"chip on it's shoulder about being treated like a second class citizen in 2016"?????

Second class citizen? PJ and the Bronco run last year brought way more publicity and respect to WMU and the MAC than anything we've seen in a while. Capped by a great showing in a good bowl game. Does this guy even realize that the Broncos made it on ESPN College Gameday, for god's sake? 37 points on the road with a green QB, new coaches and systems? WMU still the MAC favorite until proven otherwise, but this guy doesn't seem to know much about football.

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released
I think the team felt a little slighted last year about their ranking while being 13-0 and the chatter that other teams from similar-level conferences (Boise and Navy, etc.) were better Cotton Bowl options with losses on their records. Then throw in that their coach bailed on them for "greener" pastures, along with the talk about them taking a step back with losses of key seniors from last year, and yeah I'd say this group will be carrying around a pretty big chip and out to prove that they weren't one-hit wonders. Seems like MAC teams in general always carry a pretty big chip.

RE: Week 1 CFB point spreads released
Players will emerge as stars this coming season along with the obvious talent at running back and offensive line.

I believe one of the QB's and several wide receivers will come to the surface as great players to move the momentum for Western.

Defensive line is young and unproven, but, here again, a star may be born.

I don't see it. USC will not be looking past us to Stanford. They know WMU ended the year ranked #15 and playing well in a New Years Day Bowl, and will prepare accordingly.
