RE: Athlon Preseason All Conference Teams
Look- our defense couldn't stop anyone all year-- UTSA, Marshall, Western, whoever.

We win that game with Lil' Stock.

UTSA gave up 63 to LaTech in their next game.

MT, conversely, scored 51 on Mizzou, 42 on FIU, and 43 against Western in the preceding games.

Stock went down when we were losing 14-7 a minute into the second quarter.

It doesn't really matter now, though, because we got our tail whipped and followed that up with a dismal game at hapless Marshall.

You Western fellers need to stick to hoops (-;

Score might have been closer but no way UTSA loses that game. Not that anyone said they would. It was very clear early on who were the men and who were the boys. That day.

I do remember UTSA's coach making what I thought were some stupid calls when his O-Line and running backs were just RAMMING it down Middle's throats and had the Middle players hollering "y'all quit!!!". A couple ill advised passes in my opinion. But I never thought Middle had a chance to win.

Do Middle and UTSA play this year?

No.

I kept saying why are you trying to pass the damn ball. I believe they also tried a trick play that backfired when Middle had no shot at stopping the run. And even before Stockstill went down UTSA was easily winning the line of scrimmage. Manhandling Middle. Sometimes that changes with a couple good drives but on that day it really did look like a FBS vs FCS on both sides of the line. And that's not me trying to insult Middle. UTSA was just playing lights out.

If that UTSA and the one that manhandled Arizona State for most of the game had showed up more often...UTSA probably wins the West. But for some reason they seemed to just fall apart at times.

UTSA can't win in Ruston - kind of like we can't seem to beat USM the couple of seasons

Lol. Settle down KajunMan. Unless Lil Stock went both ways the rest of the game and turned into an Andrew Jackson Middle Linebacker miraculously there was no way Middle wins that day.

Their O-Line was manhandling your guys to the point it was laughable. Their D-Line was getting in your backfield. Stock could have led you to more scores but he wasn't stopping the UTSA offense that day. Nobody was.

Hell, I was glad we weren't playing them that day. They were bringing the wood on dee and their QB looked like a big version of Kolton Browning that day. It's obvious they didn't play like that every game but they were clicking that day. Especially considering their coach was making some suspect calls in my opinion.

Didnt White have a passer rating like 20 points higher?

There has still been no support posted for anything that would suggest Stockstill is better except MTSU fans saying it.

Again, White's season may have still been better...

Look, if you really wanna go down this road...

It's revisionist history, right? So if we're giving Stock a full healthy season, he gets a do over on the bowl game because he was coming back from injury and if we're going full revisionist, we probably win at leaat one of the UTSA or Marshall games if not both. I only make this point because despite throwing for 432 yards and 4 TDs, he also threw 2 picks and that was the only game that he threw more than one in.

I could also point out that his play had been trending upwards after the Western loss(not that that was a bad game, 42-54 77.7% 434 yards 3 TD 1 INT) in the nine quarters he played following the Western loss he threw for 710 yards and 9 TDs against 0 picks which included a win at Mizzou.

But look, just getting back to the idea of White's numbers blowing Stock's out of the water, I just don't see it. White's numbers would have still been better like I said, but it's not by some ridiculous margin like you're suggesting.

Just a friendly reminder on that note that UTSA was up 21-7 before Urzua came in for Stockstill.

Just a friendly reminder, us beating a terrible Marshall team would have satisfied the bolded statement you're taking exception to.

Man, but did you see our backup ? I'm sure he's a great kid and all -- but did you see our backup QB ? I mean-- we went from beating Mizzou to getting boat-raced by Marshall. Combined with Tyrone "The Matador" Nix's defense we were doomed to fail.

Our backup QB may have been the worst QB we've put out there since we've been 1-A, while Stockstill is the best. And that is our fault for not having him better prepared (he should have played earlier in the year when we had bigger leads -- but I guess Rick Stockstill knew that no lead was safe with our porous "D").

Richie James, who played QB for one season in high school, was the 2nd best quarterback we had last year.

Yessir.

We had a similar deal back in the early 2000's with ReShard Lee.

Pretty sad that we don't have another QB on the roster better than James. I'll grant he's a freak of an athlete and did a lot of damage with his legs, but we have to do better at recruiting depth at QB.

I can't remember the last time we had a backup I felt good about that didn't transfer.

Austin Grammer
AJ Erdely
Jeff Murphy
Shaun White
Tim Byerly
Brent Burnette
Jamal Ramsey
Gene Delle Donne
Salin Simpson

Every guy on that list was mediocre at best and/or transfered out.
