It says here http://cdispatch.com/sports/article.asp?aid=58402 that UAT owes him $1.06 million over 4 years for firing him without cause. Wouldn't a potential NCAA violation be considered for cause?

That was my thinking....that UAT has cause as he violated NCAA rules or that's the angle they'll probably go with. Kinda like cutting a scholarship amount Alabama style..kid only went to class 95% of the time while he struggled academically to end up with a 3.75 GPA, and had nothing to do with his .130 batting avg or 8.45 ERA.

They fired him without cause. The new admin didn't like him and if you have met him you would understand why. They won't miss the 4 million he gets for getting canned.

not at P5 schools, everyone else can

Quote:Goff was fired Wednesday after he tried to reduce or take away scholarships for as many as 10 players at the end of the season, according to the Tuscaloosa News’ Ben Jones. Such an action would constitute a violation of NCAA rules.

Players were reportedly told about Goff’s firing during a team meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Under legislation passed in January 2015, athletic programs in the Power 5, which includes the SEC, have to renew athletic scholarships annually. Athletic scholarships from Power 5 programs can’t be revoked for athletic reasons. Goff previously coached at Louisiana Tech, which is not in the Power 5 and isn’t subject to that rule.

Legislation(?). Legislation by what legislative body?

Quote:According to NCAA bylaw 15.3.4.3.1, which was revised three years ago, "an institution may not set forth an athletically related condition (e.g., financial aid contingent upon specified performance or playing a specific position) that would permit the institution to reduce or cancel the student-athlete's financial aid during the period of the award if the conditions are not satisfied."

If the NCAA has rules for P5 that separate them from the rest of us, then our Presidents have already ceded the separation.

Indeed they have, and I don't even agree with that NCAA legislation!!! This means a player can do whatever they want to, as long as it's not rape or murder, and still be on the team!! I don't blame the 'Bama coach for wanting to clear the roster, and this stupid rule will make coaches not really want to coach anymore.

This rule, $11M coaching incomes, more facilities upgrades than most US cities can afford,... are some of the numerous byproducts of P5 schools having more money than they know what to do with.

OK. I never associated NCAA rules with legislation.

LA Tech should re-hire Goff. All Lane Burroughs did this year was snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Burroughs let a really good baseball team miss making the regionals. The guy (Burroughs) has some serious coaching issues (e.g., too much sacrifice bunting, poor base running, poor pitching staff management, etc...) and may be in over his head at LA Tech.
