Just listened to a radio interview Mike Houston did yesterday where he stated that JMU football had the biggest APR jump of any football team in the entire country last year. That is a big thing that Houston has focused on with his "changing the culture" at JMU. Not only did he focus with on field results to win a national title, but he got the players to focus off the field and in the classroom.

I think Houston can be head coach, AD, and University President and take us further in the 2 or 3 years he'll be here than another decade of these knuckleheads.

Mike Houston is a PR dream.

And uniformly every player that I have talked to really thinks highly of Houston.

My understanding is that he instituted a minimum gpa requirement to move off campus. By all accounts the previous coach had stressed academics pretty hard but never to the extent of keeping upperclassmen in dorms if their grades were not high enough. Based on the results, holding out this particular carrot worked.

Don't be giving ECTC any ideas about our coach! I want him to hang around for a while.

This man needs an empty check. Pay him whatever he wants. We need to keep this man along as long as he wants to coach football.
He's everything you could possibly ask for in a college coach and represents JMU perfectly.

This is false. Withers did this too.

This is false. Withers did this too.

He did.

Scherer and Wood both required players on scholarship to stay on campus for 3 years. I'm pretty sure we had a minimum GPA requirement as well. Although, I cannot remember that for certain; thankfully, I never had to worry about a minimal GPA requirement.
