I do know Chuha, Harris and Ndir are staying. Wilkens looks like he is going to stay as well. That means 4 starters are probably back from next year with a point guard that is reported as being better than Ian Baker. Throw red shirt freshman Johnny McCants, and the Miles kid that just signed up, 3 point aussie ace Hadley and we should compete. Will we have another 28 game win season? Probably not. Tougher OCC schedule this year and Utah Valley and Grand Canyon are stacked. However, NMSU will be in the mix like they always are. BOHHYAHHH!!!
If Jans can convince Huggins to stay, then I think NMSU will once again be the favorite to win the WAC. I hope he stays but until otherwise stated, we have to assume he is still leaving.
With Huggins, NMSU would have a good starting five...
Harris
Ndir
Huggins
Chuha
Wilkins
With J. Jones, M Jones, McCants, Hadley, and Miles coming off the bench. Also, with a few more scholarships to fill, Jans could plug the gaps on our bench.
Huggins and Jones are enrolled so looks like a good chance they both return.

Jans spoke about the situation saying that things have changed a great deal in the past few years so that with Graduate Transfers and the tendency for players to ask for a release when a new coach is hired that there are still some good players who can be signed. He stated a goal of having players signed by June 29 (start of second summer session.)

We will see how things turn out.
Right now, NMSU only has two senior on this squad (if Huggins doesn't return)... Jemerrio Jones and Johnathon Wilkins. If Jans wants more scholarships for 2018. He will need to fill our current four scholarship openings with grad transfers. That would give Jans six scholarships to work with after a full season to sign Juco and freshmen for 2018. One major positive about 2018 is Harris, Ndir, and Chuha "should" return.

Jans also said he is looking to the future, but "wants to win now". That would imply grad transfers and jucos.
Here is my pick for WAC Player of the Year. Sidy Ndir in my opinion is clearly the best shooting guard in the WAC IF he stays healthy the entire season.
3.9pts/1.5rebs per game as a freshman. Decent production last season, but only a sample size of 9 games against some of the weakest competition NMSU faced (6 of 9 had KenPom ratings of 220+). Even on his best nights scoring, N'Dir was usually still eclipsed in the box score by Baker, Huggins, Chuha, or some combination thereof. Nice try with the cherry-picked highlights & revisionist history, though.
Dancing's new favorite "hot take" not withstanding (i.e. Josh "Tony Romo" Braun), Braun will again be one of the WAC's best. He's played in 88 games over the last 3 seasons, while increasing his scoring average yearly from about 11.8 to 16.6 to 17.5 in 2016-17. JB is already over 1300 career points and could realistically end up north of 1900 when it's all said & done.
That said, Frank, I know logic, reason, and facts teams to be lost on you. So, enjoy life behind those crimson-colored glasses. Keep telling yourself whatever it is you need to believe about Aggie basketball to get you through the day & we will look forward to seeing how your prediction holds up once the team's are actually playing in 2017-18.

If healthy, Sidy Ndir could average 18-20 points per game. The kid is a threat from anywhere on the court and is a SEC caliber recruit. If Braun has to guard Sidy next season, Sidy will go off for 20+ easily. Also remember, with a team who had 5-6 guys who could score double digits on any given night, Sidy was the best player on the team before he went down with his season ending injury. If it wasn't for his injury, he would have been first-team All-WAC with Ian Baker.
The big "IFs" is if Sidy Ndir can stay healthy and if he can regain 2016-2017 early seasons form. Sidy might be only 6'1" but he is very athletic, explosive, and extremely quick. He is a lefty, so his perimeter shot sometimes looks awkward but he is fairly accurate. He has a very quick first step so he is much more than just a perimeter shooter. He can score at all three levels (behind the arc, mid-range, and at the rim).
If fully healthy, Sidy is a legit candidate for WAC Player of the Year.
