Belt baseball tourney format
Just wondering if any of you would prefer a different format-- maybe just an 8 team double elimination or all 12 teams in or some kind of pool play set up?

I don't like the #2 team being a #3 seed, buts mostly just because it's my team. Other than that, I don't have any issues.

At the same time someone from UTA might point out that the two of you didn't play this year, so you only finished 3rd because you didn't play them

It works both ways. I like the 10 team format, though if we lose tomorrow I expect I will hate it.

Really why do we need divisions in baseball?

I think its more procedural just to clarify who sits out who. You only sit out teams from the other division, ensuring each team has a few regional opponents they will play every year.

Like in AState's case, next year two of our 5 road trips are guaranteed to be ULM and UALR, both easy trips. I guess it offers some reasonable travel protection, so a team can't get stuck traveling a whole bunch to teams on the other side of the league. Limits commercial flights and potential tie game scenarios. (CCU/ULL notwithstanding)

Because the coaches didn't want to play every team in the league each year. It would take away from the amount of games you could schedule against OOC teams which southern teams try to schedule more home games to help the budget (gate plus it's costly to travel). If you're smart at scheduling, you can usually help your RPI greatly in how you use these games. You wouldn't think three games would make that much differences, but the coaches apparently think so.

Or Hurt it in you guys case if you schedule the wrong team.

The other factor about playing 33 games is an uneven league schedule. Some teams would be playing 18 home games, others 18 road games. If those 18 home games go to a team like Coastal or the Cajuns with significant home field advantages, it could be huge.

I have no problem with it this year. I kinda like the divisions make it a tad more interesting. Do the division winners get trophies?

I understand the benefits of the pool play format, but I don't think many liked how it turned out when we did try it. Went right back to the double elimination

I believe it was 2011 or 2012 one of the pools ended in a 3 way tie with 3 teams at 2-1, and with no real tiebreakers available, the Sun Belt simply declared the highest seed of the three would advance.

We ended up with several meaningless games that I don't think anyone liked. Though I do have vivid memories of an already eliminated FIU taking infield for its Final Game without a Ball, pantomiming outrageous dives and throws and everything.
