There are more VT yard signs and car stickers neighborhood (Colonial Place) than ODU. Makes sense for the VT stuff to be in our area.

Our school isn't doing enough to advertise the brand.

As a CPRV resident, I'm not sure I can agree with the first sentence. But the rest, yeah.

For a project my wife did for her Marketing degree she (had me) tally up how many signs were up for each University in Colonial Place (River View was left out).

Tried to count house holds. If it appeared that a house had both a Yard pride flag and a car sticker or some other marker. It still only counted as 1.

I can only find 1 of the counts I did (I did several) and this was 1.5 years ago but:

VT: 10
ODU: 8
UVA: 6
Navy: 4
Tennessee: 3
JMU: 3
George Mason: 2
Southern Miss: 2
Norfolk State: 2
UNC: 2
ECU: 2
USC: 2
Michigan State: 2
Michigan: 1
Ohio: 1
Virginia State: 1
Army: 1
Butler: 1
Pittsburg State:1

Note:
*These numbers include the apartment complex Delaware and Llewellyn across the street from the dog park and went all the way down to 38th Street.

*This was during football season

*I did not count any cars parked at the Kingdom Hall on New Hampshire.

*Multiple counts were done, in hopes to catch any cars that may have been out of the area during a count so they could be counted again.

*Wife may still have that report on a thumb drive somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

The fact that ODU and VT are so close, shows to me that students are not buying ODU pride stickers. (To include me)

Once the summer semester is done, I could do a count again to see how much things have changed. I'd imagine quite a bit considering how transient the area is due to the school and military leases.

Not sure how USM got credit for 2. But I know the guy who is the lone USM fan in the neighborhood, guessing his or his wife's car was parked far enough way from his house that it counted twice.

Edit: as for the ODU count, that seems low. Between my block and Newport (I live on Mayflower) I can count 5 houses (using your methodology) with either stickers or flags.

This isn't a bad idea. There can't get that many seats left to sell at this point and this will get in the hands of people that have probably never had tickets before.

I would guess those seats are in the end zone too. I got stuck in the end zone one season and believe me... it sucked. I upped my ODAF to make sure I never sat there again. Way to tight, way too drunk and a bad vantage point with no scoreboard view all make it a tough sell. $100 is about right for those seats.

I believe this year ALL season tickets are sideline seats. End zones are for students, band, and visitors only.

Young alumni are offered $99 football season tickets in the end zone only.

That's why I made it a point when I was in school to get a decal on my car. First it was the state logo, then it was a customized ODU licence plate. When I graduated, my girlfriend gave me an alumni license plate frame. When my poor Honda Civic was totaled, I made sure I ordered another state logo for my new Jeep (the personalized plates didn't make it to the new car but they are nice wall decorations, however the alumni frame is there). Once summer came a long and it was time to take the hard top off and put on the soft top, I decided to order a WRV ODU decal and put it on the back door. I like to show my pride!

I will say though, once fall starts up again you'll see a lot more ODU decals from students. Nearly everybody I knew in college had some sort of ODU designation on their car

When I graduated with my Master's degree from ODU my wife gave me a medal "ODU graduate" license plate holder..... I said, "Thanks dear... have you looked at my car lately? I've had this same license plate holder on my car from when I graduated with my bachelor's.
WTKR was doing a story on the brutal weather when my AC went out. They asked if they could film the guy working on my unit.... opening video from the curb showed my big ol American flag flying with the blue ODU flag right under it.

Thanks nothing. During last winter's snowstorm (and pretty much every snowstorm before that), all of the dogs in the neighborhood make impromptu monuments to VCU.

We just can't compete with them when it comes to branding.
