While it can be difficult to understand the head count thing at first blush, once you have a grip on that, the remainder of the pieces fall in place. Either the JMU admin thinks they are simply smarter than all others or they prefer to keep us in the dark, neither of which is an admirable trait. This goes hand-in-hand with the information they send out, no clear definitions of why they do anything.
I have to disagree. The explanations for the reduction in sports were clearly explained by the Rose administration at the time they were announced. The fact that the reductions were unpopular and that the Title IX reasons provided by Rose and company were dismissed as disingenuous does not mean they were not clearly explained.
Sorry for the correction, but as time passes (it's been a decade or more now since the restructuring) the myth of a decision by administrative fiat is an easy go-to for those who still chaff under the decision to cut sports. The facts, however, do not support that viewpoint.
I was basing my response on a one-on-one I had with Dr. Rose when he came to Charlotte right after that all had been announced. I will admit that I had not read much about it prior to my asking, I knew that it was happening and in our brief discussion there were no where near the details that now I've a much better understanding.

Towson is upsetting #3 Ohio State 7-3 at the half. It's a good one so far. It's on ESPN2.
Edit: Tough break for Towson, as OSU rallies back in the second half to win 11-10. Good season for the Tigers.

It was a classic NCAA tournament game. The tournament games all seem to be close ones and get decided in the late stages. I was really pulling for Towson. They played great against a really good team.
The finals will be an all Big 10 affair. The ACC had no one in the final four. I am not sure of this but perhaps this was the first time?
