That mentality is what separates Tech and UL from the rest of Louisiana universities sans LSU. In sports other than football, beating LSU or Tulane does not make a resume'. In that respect, the dreaded word "separation" does exist. It's a mindset.

I think ULM has become a coaching graveyard. Sad to see any program go thru that. It's a hard rep to break. Peddie said a lot of things in his radio interview the other day, but the 2 championships since joining the SBC 11 years ago cannot be denied. Over 100 chances and only 2. That more than budget size is why people don't discuss ULM in conference reorganization. ULM brings nothing. A young coach won't risk it.

An older coach, like Matt Viator, had an opportunity to add to his 401K on top of a few more years of state retirement off the base pay. Might have some good names out there, don't see anyone jumping into that fire.

Peddie a ULM assistant replaced Schexneider.
Schexneider hired from West Monroe High School replaced Laval.
Laval came from LSU.

Keith Richard basketball from LSU.
Matt Viator football from McNeese.

History says ULM won't look very far.

on the radio yesterday, they mentioned the McNeese coach because he's from the area but they said he's already being paid the same amount in Lake Charles that they didn't know why he'd leave

Matt Riser would be a fantastic hire for ULM. He's a solid coach and would make an immediate impact. ULM is crazy if they don't go after him.

You are correct. Take out the LSU, Tech, Grambling and WMHS fans out of the local population, what do you have left? ULM alumni and people who are indifferent to sports. The MSA of Monroe is around 177k, so it's pretty divided. And Peddie is too to a certain degree.

Only problem with that idea is that Matt Riser is not stark-raving mad.

There's too much talent in Louisiana not to have a good baseball team... just gotta find the right baseball coach that can turn it around.

I listened to the entire interview. Peddie wasn't far off base with any of his comments.

I don't see Hill or Rizer interested because I don't see a way ULM can rise to the level that McNeese and Southeastern are right now. Unless ULM really makes a monetary investment in that program, they can hire anyone. Won't matter much.

I think I read where the AD said he wants this done quickly. Which means the new AD won't be doing the hire.

But does ULM's administration honestly care if sports their fail?

They've always had the capability to do enough to make baseball successful. It's never happened. The President simply doesn't care if Athletics at ULM lives or dies.
