Football coaches who left the MAC - where are they now?
Just saw somewhere that Darrell Hazell got a job as WR coach for the Vikings, which made me think about all of those other MAC head coaches who did well here, left for a bigger job, but didn't do so hot at their new gig. It varies by school of course, but where are the coaches that fizzled out after leaving? For Miami, Mike Haywood did nothing for a few years after getting fired by Pitt a month on the job, but is about to enter his second season at Texas Southern. It doesn't exactly qualify, but Godaddy Bowl interim head coach Lance Guidry from 2010 is entering his second season as a head coach at McNeese State now after being an assistant there and WKU.

RE: Football coaches who left the MAC - where are they now?
For WMU, there's:

PJ Fleck - dead, at the senseless age of 36. Eaten by wolves and sociopath WMU Message Board posters.

Bill Cubit - coached around. Humiliated at Illinois. Now coaching HS football in Southern Michigan (Florida).

Gary Darnell - after getting shellacked in the Alamo Bowl in 2007, he went on to do nothing worth noting on his Wikipedia page.

Al Molde - Retired.

For Akron:

Jim Dennison - Took over Walsh University's football team, and moved them from NAIA to NCAA D-II before retiring in 2012

Gerry Faust - Retired and moved to a relatively wealthy Akron suburb. Motivational speaker and fundraiser for the University of Akron.

Lee Owens - Very successful head football coach for D-II Ashland with a record of 99-44.

JD Brookhart - Retired from coaching. I think he works for a non-profit organization in Colorado.

Rob Ianello - Assistant coach at Buffalo.

^ Speaking of Owens, former Miami coach Tim Rose (the guy at the helm of our winless season in the eighties) is his DC at Ashland. And I think a good number of people around here know that Treadwell is OC at Kent State, which probably helps explain their offensive prowess the past few seasons.

For BG

Meyer left BG to Utah to Florida to retirement to Ohio State

Brandon - Fired, IIRC, assistant at Wyoming and now at North Colorado. Good OC and had some good wins at BG as HC.

Clawson left BG to Winston Salem - 3 years, bowl game last year. He is a builder so we'll see. Lost DC Elko to ND so that may hurt.

Babers left BG to Syracuse - 1 year - per his words it takes about 16 games to bring his offense fully online so we'll see this year.

Jerry Kill - OC at Rutgers, did a fairly good job at Minnesota before leaving due to health reasons. Not sure how OC is going to work with his health situation but we'll see.

Dave Doeren - holding on for the past 4 years at NC State since leaving NIU, has been 3-5 in conference the last 3 years after an 0-8 first year.

I wish Kill the best, he always seemed like a good guy at NIU. Hopefully he doesn't have too many recruiting duties as OC because that can really take a toll on people (let alone someone with his health problems), having to work with Rutgers can't help much either.

Doeren is probably on his last legs at NC State unless he can really get it going this year. Beating Notre Dame (albeit a lousy Notre Dame team) and UNC plus coming close against Clemson last season probably bought him another year.

I originally intended the thread to be about coaches who left and flopped at their new job, although a general ex-coach thread is probably more interesting anyways. In that regard, all the ones for Miami (in chronological order) are as follows:

Ara Parseghian: Still alive, long-retired after Notre Dame.
John Pont and Bo Schembechler: May they rest in peace.
Bill Mallory: Retired after coaching at Miami, Colorado, NIU, and Indiana.
Dick Crum: Retired after Miami, UNC, and Kent State.
Tom Reed: Retired after Miami, NC State, and going back as an assistant at Michigan.
Rose: Still Ashland DC as mentioned.
Randy Walker and Terry Hoeppner: May they rest in peace.
Shane Montgomery: Was an assistant at Akron for a year, is OC at Youngstown State and just made the FCS title game.
Haywood: Texas Southern as mentioned.
Guidry: McNeese State.
Treadwell: Rotting away at Kent State.
Mike Bath (interim in 2013): Assistant coach at Wyoming.

Joe Novak - Retired from NIU after 2007 season. Lives in North Carolina and frequents the occasional NIU games as well as showing up to NIU fundraising events.

PJ Fleck - doing a fairly good job at Minnesota but the punchline of jokes too numerous to mention.
