Field is set now. FIU is the last team to punch their ticket.

Now, just seeding..

USM is leading UTSA 4-0 after 3, thanks to homers by Burdeaux and Bowen and an RBI double by Hadley. The 'Runners have two walks and no hits so far.

A 7-run T9 caps off USM's 15-1 demolition of UTSA in the second game of their series in San Antonio.

UTSA drops to 15-14, a half game behind us.

Due to "impending weather" forecast for tomorrow, their regular-season-ending final game of the series is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. (Central time).

USM 25-5 is 1 seed
ODU 19-10 is 2 seed
Charlotte, FAU and La Tech are all 17-12
Rice is 16-13 and can't be worse than 6 seed (we can also be 4 or 5 seed depending on how games go today)
UTSA is 15-15, FIU is 14-15 and is 7 seed with a win today and 8 seed with a loss

I don't think Rice can finish higher than 5th, if Charlotte loses and Rice wins.

I think if it's a 4-way tie at 17-13, we'll be 4th? Don't you use head-to-head results in that case? I got FAU 3rd with a 4-2 round-robin record, Rice 4th with 5-4, Louisiana Tech 5th at 3-3 and Charlotte 6th at 3-6. But that's a lot of teams to be looking up results for, and I might have missed something.

If Rice wins and finishes 6th, that feels like a good result...

Agreed. If we finish aa the 5th seed, we'll likely be bracketed with both USM and LaTech, the other two red hot teams heading into Biloxi. Our pitching would never survive that bracket.

RE: Other CUSA baseball games this weekend - tournament seed implications
is there a scenario where Rice and Charlotte finish 4th and 5th and LA Tech/FAU 3rd and 6th?

I'd take my chances with UTSA/FIU, Charlotte, and USM.

You've got the tiebreaker right, but I haven't cross-checked the round robin records.

I do know that the Rice game notes seems to imply that it's between 5 or 6 depending solely on our result and Charlotte's. Maybe I'll have a look after we win this afternoon and see how it's shaping up per our version of the tiebreaker.
It's also worth noting that the PDF referenced above predates the current season, so it's possible that the tiebreakers have since been changed. (If so, I did NOT get that memo!)

Cross Posting my tiebreaker logic from the conference board.

Rice is definitely the 6 seed with the Charlotte win today.

All seeds may be settled even though two games remain incomplete.

Charlotte with the sweep.
How do those tiebreakers line up for 3rd place with FAU and probably LATech?

And if I read the tiebreaker rules correctly then Charlotte's win should lock up the 3 seed for FAU and the 4 seed for Charlotte. LATech should remain as #5 regardless of whether the win or lose vs MTSU.

FAU went 2-1 against Charlotte so they'd win seed 3 if it's a 2-team tie.

Charlotte beat LATech 2-1 (and did not play FAU) so in a 3-team tie it'd still be:
3. FAU (2-1)
4. Charlotte (3-3)
5. LATech (1-2)

It this is correct (from the Conference Talk board):

(05-20-2017 01:52 PM)usm99 Wrote:  We now know 2 of the 4 matchups on day 1...unless WKU pulls off a miracle at FIU as FIU leads them 11-2 in b8:

Game 1: 3 vs 6
Game 2: ODU (2) vs FIU (7)
Game 3: USM (1) vs UTSA (8)
Game 4: 4 vs 5

... and this, too (from CUSA):

12:30 pm -- Game 2 (ESPN 3)
4 pm -- Game 3 (ESPN 3)
7:30 pm -- Game 4 (ESPN 3)

... then our first game vs. FAU will start at 9 a.m. I hope our Owls wake up bright and early ... hitting and pitching well, like they want to win a championship.

Go Owls!!

I agree, it does look like a good bracket. Ultimately we have to believe in ourselves and know that we really ought to beat any team in this tournament if we play to the level of which we're capable.

Eh, no shame in losing to USM this year. They are probably a national seed if they win the C-USA tourney.
