Probably one the reasons why Coach Tubby left...
Lubbock, Texas!!!

Quote:Former Texas Tech head football coach Tommy Tuberville was a guest on The Rick and Bubba Show [WZZK-FM] based in Birmingham, Ala., this week and made a comparison that may confuse some people – especially Lubbock natives -- as Auburn 247Sports first passed along.

The former Red Raider coach said moving from Auburn to Texas Tech was like going to Siberia.

"You run me off at Auburn and you ship me to Lubbock, Texas," Tuberville said on the show. "I'm going to tell you what, that's like going to Siberia. Somebody asked me, 'What's Lubbock look like?' It looked like Iraq."

The Rest of the Story!!!

He is partly correct; more shrubs in west Texas though.

Not one of the top places to visit in TX.

It was too easy to recruit at Texas Tech. He wanted to challenge himself by going to a place with no brand, no tradition, where it is almost impossible to recruit top 100 recruits.

My granddaughter is a student at Tech. She says she stays in her dorm almost all the time when she is not in class. Due to being in Texas and the B12....they can still recruit some pretty good football players.

Beautiful campus in the middle of town. Nice size town. Friendly people. It is remote but in comparison with Auburn, Lubbock comes off well. I was there last week.

I agree Irish.

Used to spend a lot of time in Lubbock. It's a music town, lots of live music around town. Buddy Holly birthplace. Also, great steak restaurants all over town. Best steaks I've ever eaten. Very nice people. And for it's size, a nice airport, very easy to get in and out.

But it is remote. You drive 2 miles out of town, and you feel like you're in a different country.

This gets old...

Ok we get your point...Why would you continue to try to drill it home every chance you get.

I have a niece from Dallas who said something very similar. She toured TTU several times before choosing a college. She ended up going to U of Arkansas.

I grew up in Oxford (die hard tiger fan since '81 and '93 alum...Don't hate Ole Miss but could care less if they won or lost). At any rate, I was there in Tubberville's tenure. His wife immediately endured herself to Rebel fans and citizens alike by stating in an interview with ESPN that "the town has ONE McDonald's, ONE Kroger, and Walmart closes at 9:00 pm. I shouldn't have trouble sleeping while we're there."

To each his own. I think Jenny Fuente prefers that type environment.

But that is pretty funny.

Texas Tech had a great coach who was winning at an unprecedented rate and they ran him out of town because of Craig James.

If there was a match made in heaven that was it. Ten straight winning seasons and 5 of the last 6 seasons ranked in the top 25. Since then they have had 3 out of 7 winning seasons and zero seasons ranked.
