The entire coaching staff gets to come in here on official business for 24 hours and work the city. They get visibility on local news and play a game on our court. They can sell it as getting the advantages they normally sell for their schools plus get a chance to play the home team.

At the same time, we need these games right now. Have needed them for about 4 years. So we hold our nose and play the SEC. 2 SEC-type regionals a year (home/away), plus 2 other high profiles (home/away) would be my preference.

It's unfortunate but I agree. Hopefully, Arkansas will be good enough to drag the games onto national tv.

that's how it should work.

I would play every sec school that is willing to come here

You are quickly losing your greatest poster ever title.

We gain absolutely NOTHING from playing SEC schools in basketball. But we do hell put them into the eyes of our very talent laden town by doing so. It is one thing to not work hard in trying to recruit the top talent in town. It is another to help others to recruit them. It is going to be hard enough to convince talent to stay home as it is and Arkansas currently has the top class of 2018. They do not need help in getting their name in front of the recruits.

I disagree completely. I don't care what the selection commitee says, they most certainly use the "eye test". If you think beating 100 RPI Arkansas over beating 100 RPI Western Northern Easternish Utah Sisters of the Blind doesn't hold more weight with the selection commitee you haven't been paying much attention.

One of the rules of the "eye test" is that it can only be used to help teams from power conferences. Likewise, it can only be used to harm teams outside the P5.

That is the absolute truth. Before the RPI there was just outright screwing for no reason. Now the committee has to come up with a reason. It is pathetic how there is indignation when a P5 team with an RPI in the 60's doesn't make it or a non P5 with an RPI in the 40's makes it.

Hell will freeze solid before they agree to play us the football game they still owe us, but yet our administration does nothing about it, but wants to schedule them in basketball.

Hell, that's been over 20 years ago. Most of the posters in here were in elementary or middle school.

Frank Broyles is 92. Let it go. Fresh start.

Doesn't matter how long it's been---they owe us a game. Shame on our administration if they do this----it's like " thank you sir may I have another"--we never seem to learn when it comes to the SEC schools.---- As for Smith--just another example of him sticking it to the TIGERS. WOE IS US----WE WILL RUE THE DAY!!! The ENEMY from within. HE DON"T CARE---PERIOD.

urban myth....they don't "owe us a game"

The game would be in Fayetteville if Arkansas gave Memphis the game and I imagine it's been offered since but maybe Memphis didn't want it because there was no return game to Memphis?

Houston Nutt wanted out of the game. It was s to be in Fayetteville, not Memphis. Frank did what his corch wanted. Plus , add in the sweetheart deal that ULM was offering. A long term deal that they would play us rather cheaply if the could count the attendance at Little Rock to met their minimum NCAA requirements.

One recruit was recently elevated to 5* status on Rivals.

Anyone remember these quotes? When the sec schools are admitting they want to get into your town you may want to take note.

Quote:“It’s exciting for our fans both in Memphis and here in the state to see this natural rivalry resume in both sports,” Bjork said in a statement when the series was announced in 2012. “The Memphis community is a priority, and this series is important for our growing alumni base in the area.

“From a football standpoint, Coach (Hugh) Freeze and I have the same scheduling philosophy and agreed it was imperative to continue to brand our program and put the Ole Miss flag in Memphis.

Oxford is a bit different than Fayetteville. Fayetteville is a real city, with actual industry and commerce.

Oxford doesn't even have an interstate. They are dependent on kids from Metropolitan areas for enrollment, and their brand isn't historically the most progressive.

I couldn't imagine a worst location of a flagship university.
