Using the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office ?
Interesting article in today's Mpls StarTribune:

http://www.startribune.com/impeach-presi...422641744/

Quote:As President Trump’s behavior gets weirder and more dangerous by the day, his lawful removal from office becomes increasingly desirable, if not imperative.

Some Democrats and a few others have been pining to initiate an impeachment effort. But they are barking up the wrong tree.

Those who have experienced the presidential impeachment proceedings of former President Bill Clinton, resulting in his 1999 acquittal; or against the late President Richard Nixon, leading to his 1974 resignation; or those who recall from history President Andrew Johnson’s one-vote impeachment-trial victory, know full well that trying to oust a president for “high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” the term used in Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution, is a grueling, time-consuming, divisive ordeal awash with partisan considerations.

...

The key section of the 25th Amendment authorizes replacement of the president if the vice president and a majority of the heads of executive branch departments, not just Cabinet posts, furnish statements to Congress deeming the current White House occupant to be “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his [sic] office.” (The measure did not contemplate, my gosh, a woman president, when drafted five decades ago.)

...

Going this route would require some degree of backbone from Vice President Mike Pence, who would have to initiate the constitutionally endorsed coup. He also would need the backing of a cabal of Cabinet officials and other executive department chiefs. It wouldn’t hurt to have the backing of a sizable segment of Congress, especially the Republicans who control both houses. To pursue this path, it also would help to have substantial public support, maybe even from some segments of Trump’s ever-loyal but declining base.

The 25th Amendment is not designed to remove a sitting President for being unpopular, or making decisions that are counter to the other political party. It's designed (and TBH, has the only change of succeeding) for a President who is incapacitate by health issues, or I guess has literally disappeared.

Interesting premise, but wishful thinking

And since the republicans have majorities in the house, senate and occupy the cabinet positions there is no way they would invoke the 25th amendment for anything that wasn't impeachable in the first place and popularity is not an impeachable offense.

It's not just wishful thinking it is as likely as fairy dust and unicorns.

Sure, it probably is wishful thinking.

But, mental health issues qualify as health issues. That can't be denied.

Has Trump been professionally diagnosed with a debilitating mental health concern?

Idiots have done this before. Look up the outcome of the medical professionals who decided to diagnose Barry Goldwater.

Are you a licensed mental health medical professional?

If not, how are you making a diagnosis that he has mental health isses and the the Vice President and the Cabinet should remove the President from office via the 25th Amendment?

Sorry...but...You know zero about the 25th amendment. Unless proof of incapacity of the POTUS is proven this can't happen.

His behavior while in office.

I think you understand that the author is proposing it merely as a less gory means to the same end that proving "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" would be.

If it works, it works.

Libertarians are against aggression on principle. I doubt Trump has anything to fear from Libertarians.

Well, I'll admit the left is creative in coming up with wishful ways to get rid of the POTUS. Unfortunately, they are all talking points and all boil down to "we don't like him, he should be impeached" nonsense we've been hearing since day one. Heck, I didn't even vote for the man but there is nothing legally there to impeach him. "I don't like him" doesn't cut it.

Is it just the left?? Or is the right starting to pitch in??

Might want to check out Google News ... because I'm seeing that the first House Republican representative is now on record saying that if true this is grounds for impeachment, and I'm seeing Paul Ryan say "we need the facts".

more lunacy. seriously... it's almost amusing if it weren't so serious. The lunacy of the left trying to call someone else a lunatic.

Tell that to the POTUS who fires the FBI director because he wouldn't go easy on Flynn.
