Baseball Postseason Awards
Who are the top candidates?

For Tech, Nate Harris has to be in the lead for pitcher of the year.
1st in ERA (1.65), T-1st Wins (8), 1st Saves (8), t-1st K's (88) and 2nd in opp BA (.203). He has been fantastic if this season.

Rafael Gladu for Player of the year. 2nd in BA (.384), 9th in slugging (.578), 6th in OBP (.444), 1st in runs (59), 3rd in hits (81) and RBI (51). 12th in doubles and adds 7 HRs. Currently on a 15 game hitting streak.

I am sure there are several guys deserving consideration. Who are some guys that you believe will be highly considered for post season recognition?

Harris, Gladu, Jordan Washam, Nate Diaz, Sean Ullrich, and Chase Lunceford are all guys I believe are candidate for all conference selections.

RE: Baseball Postseason Awards
For USM: not saying they deserve to win but my guess on USM's top candidate for each award

POY: Dylan Burdeaux - .352 (10th), 9 HR (13th), 54 Runs (3rd), 60 RBI (1st), 15 SB (2nd)
Freshman of Year: Matt Wallner - .330, 15 HR (t-2nd), 49 RBI (7th) -- these rankings are overall and not just among freshmen only
Newcomer of the Year: Colt Smith
Pitcher of the Year: Kirk McCarty, Nick Sandlin
Coach of the Year: Scott Berry
Assistant coach of the year: Chad Caillet (hitting coach) USM leads CUSA in batting avg, runs, hits, HRs, RBIs, BB, and SB

1st team - Taylor Braley, Dylan Burdeaux, Kirk McCarty
2nd team - Colt Smith, Nick Sandlin, Matt Wallner, Irby Stanley
Freshman team - Matt Wallner, Matthew Guidry

Is there an award for most bases-on-balls or hits-by-pitch given ?

Harris is Pitcher of the Year and there's not really a discussion to be had there. Likewise for Wallner as Freshman of the Year.

We were discussing Player of the Year on the USM board.

If you're asking me who I would predict: I would say Young from ODU (#4 in hitting, #5 in slugging, #7 in on-base). In conference play alone, he is #1 in hitting, #5 in slugging, #4 in on-base, #1 in runs. So, this is a guy who has been playing at an elite level all year. Fields at a .982 clip at second base.

If you're asking me, I think it should without a doubt be Taylor Braley. To both hit and pitch at the level he has this year is invaluable. ..335/.479 OBP/.575 SLG slash line with 11 HR and 47 RBI (#10 in slugging, #1 in OBP, T-9 in RBI, T-6 in HR. On the mound, he has a 5-2 record, 3.48 ERA, 64 K in 67 IP (#9 in ERA, #10 in K's).

Burdeaux is in the mix, too...but I don't know how you can really argue him over Gladu or Young based on #s. I like placing a premium on conference stats and Wallner is #1 in the conference in both OBP and slugging (almost 100 points more than the next closest).

Finfer from Marshall has the power numbers. Plenty of good candidates this year.

Newcomer: David Miranda from FAU or Colt Smith from USM (5-0 overall and in C-USA play)

RE: Baseball Postseason Awards
Who I'd vote for:

Player: Braley or Burdeaux, though the more I think about it Braley has a very good case
Pitcher: Harris
Coach: Jason Marshall (UTSA)
Newcomer: Miranda
Freshman: Wallner
Assistant: Caillet

What I think will happen...

Player: Burdeaux
Pitcher: Harris
Coach: Scott Berry (USM)
Newcomer: Miranda
Freshman: Wallner
Assistant: Caillet

RE: Baseball Postseason Awards
Rice's Dom DiCaprio probably has a chance at the catcher spot. Ditto Myers at the 3B spot. That said, I don't really know most of the conference's players besides a few USM and LT players.

Darren Sheppard, our 1B grad transfer from Baylor is batting a hair above .300 but he strikes out a lot and never walks, so i don't know if he's Newcomer material.

If there was a most improved award, I think our Saturday starter Zach Esquivel might have a case. But there isn't.

RE: Baseball Postseason Awards
Here would be my First Team

Trying to go by the usual format: 4 INF, 3 OF, 1 DH/UT, 1 C, 5 Pitchers.

Disclaimer: I started doing this and realized it was way more effort than I actually cared to put in, so I half-assed it. I am also extremely biased toward slugging and OBP.

OF: Gladu, LT
OF: Wallner, USM
OF: Finfer, Marshall
INF: Kemp, MTSU
INF: Young, ODU
INF/UTL: Braley, USM
INF: Burdeaux, USM
DH: Aucker, MTSU
C: Diaz, LT
SP/RP: Harris, LT
SP: Bainbridge, ODU
SP: Laws, Charlotte
SP: McCarty, USM
SP/RP: Smith, USM

I have no idea what Finfer would fall under. I threw him in the OF because there are a ton of good infielders.

Usually there's only one pick as a DH/UTL....but Aucker is almost exclusively a DH and Braley would go in as a utility guy.
