Curious, are there any other private FCS programs with money?
While I think it will be very hard for any public FCS school to jump unless there is a NCAA rule change. I do think it will be easier for private schools to jump to FBS now there is a waiver process. Not sure if any have the money or desire too, but you have to imagine they will being watching Liberty venture in to FBS land closely.

RE: Curious, are there any other private FCS programs with money?
Long term, I'd watch Incarnate Word. Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, donated funds to start up the school's football program and the stadium, which bears his and his wife's name. At best, it will still be about 15 years as the school only recently moved to Division I. Of course, they are in the Sun Belt and C-USA footprints, but they are a stone's throw from Texas State, and literally across town from UTSA. They could move their other programs to the WAC if they go independent in the FBS.

Here is your list of FCS schools which are private
scholarship FCS

Wofford (SoCon)
Monmouth (Big South FB, MAAC)
Charleston Southern (Big South)
Gardner-Webb (Big South)
Presbyterian (Big South)

Sacred Heart (NEC)
St. Francis, PA (NEC)
Wagner (NEC)
Duquesne (NEC, A10)
Hampton (MEAC)
Howard (MEAC)
Bethune-Cookman (MEAC)
Incarnate Word (SLC)
Houston Baptist (SLC)
Abilene Christian (SLC)
Villanova (CAA FB, Big East)
Ivy League
Columbia
Pennsylvania
Brown
Cornell
Dartmouth
Harvard
Princetom
Yale
Patriot League
Bucknell
Colgate
Holy Cross
Lafayette
Lehigh
Fordham (A10)
Georgetown (Big East)
Non-scholarship Pioneer League

The Pioneer, Ivy and Patriot Leagues are unlikely to produce any interest in FBS -- these all have money. Villanova stands out, but they have never been enticed.

Fordham is one there has been rumors about. The Patriot recently went full scholarship and FBS is not all that far if they have facilities.

A couple others you left off are are Richmond and Elon. Again, I have no idea if they have money or interest.
I would not be surprised if Elon is keeping an eye on Liberty's try at FBS. Elon is in a unique situation where they probably could get Wake, Duke, App and Charlotte agreeing to H/H along with payday games against Clemson, NCSU, UNC and Va Tech.

Do you have to play 12 games if you're an FBS school? And do you have to give out scholarships?
I'm not saying that the following would happen, but could the Ivy League move up if they could meet the ticket sale requirements (a la EMU)? I can see a world where Cornell plays 7 Ivy games, Syracuse, Bucknell/Colgate, and a random game. The same goes for UConn and Yale, Harvard and BC, Princeton and Rutgers, Dartmouth and Brown w/ UMass, Penn and Temple, and Columbia w/ Army.

FBS programs must award an average of 76.5 scholarships (90% of the maximum) over a two-year period.

I thought The Citadel is a military school?
Dayton and Fordham both are large enrollment of students which both might be able to go.

Yes. The Citadel is a public military school. Has been since it started in 1842. They also have a graduate college with secular students.

Villanova doesn't have a stadium of FBS caliber to play in. They better stay good in basketball because that's all they have.

Where would they play, Yankee Stadium? Citi?

NYU won't go D1. But they'd have stadium options if they did. They could play in the Meadowlands, Red Bull arena, Columbia's stadium, etc.
None are ideal (obviously), but all are possible. Still, to Chappy's post, NYU isn't going DI.

But they increase the capacity and go FBS. The time the Big East was talking with them is they wanted them to do a large stadium. Now they they could do something smaller in the 20k range and be fine for FBS.

Holy Cross has a great football history. They have renewed their rivalry series with BC and have scheduled UCONN and Syracuse as well. Don't see it going past that, but if they can win some of those games, who knows what kind of interest may be stirred up?

Except that they don't have the facilities and are unlikely to gain the facilities, unless NYCFC builds a soccer-specific stadium in The Bronx, which is unlikely to happen at this point. They're boxed in, New York is expensive to build in and hard to get around.

Haven't kept up with NYCFC 's stadium build. Will they build anywhere or play at Yankee Stadium forever.

According to the articles I pulled up, Yankee Stadium is their long term home.
