So, Otto still in, 1 out, bases loaded.

4th shutout of the season. Willy's best outing of the season for the win, and one of Glenn's best outings for Save #7. Following a very disturbing year-long pattern, offense went into a coma after early production. What did we have-- one or two hits after the 3rd inning? Ugh...and against as bad pitching as we're going to face all year.

Still, a win in what was a must win game. Not sure where we're going to get enough pitching for the coming short week with four games in 5 days, starting on Tuesday vs. Texas State.

Texas State game doesn't matter except for revenge for earlier loss. Save pitching for UAB.

Would be nice to be at least .500 for season...meaning win all 4.

Some clutch pitching when it counted was pivotal in winning today's game.

The Blue Raiders left 15 men on base, including the bases loaded in three innings: 3, 6 & 9 ... the last with only one out, so the potentially tying run came to the plate twice in T9. MT had only one 3-up, 3-down inning: the 7th.

And Rice's offense had all but one hit and one walk in the final 5 innings of the game...after scoring 4 runs and leaving 7 men on base in the first 3 innings.

Here's College Baseball Central's writeup of the game, with quotes from The OG, Warren and Proctor...

With regards to my point above about the Rice offense, we were 1-hit yesterday (with only 1 BB) for the final 5 innings by a guy who came into the game with an ERA over 7.00, a BAA over .320, and who had difficulty throwing strikes (32 BBs, 12 WPs, 7 HBPs) in his previous 39 innings pitched.

Otto threw 2.1 IP on Friday and 3.1 IP on Sunday. Get the man an ice pack and a few days off, he'll need some bullets for the conference tournament!

5.2 innings of work on a weekend is not excessive, no need for an icepack.

The UAB series starts on Thursday so it's doubtful Otto will pitch Tuesday.

Most pitchers ice after every game, at least back in the old days.

Agreed. Jefferies hasn't had a quality outing in a couple weeks, so I would hope that both he and Myers (who didn't pitch over the weekend) get 2 - 3 innings of work (but no more than 40 - 45 pitches) against Texas State. None of our other 5 pitchers in the regular mix should see more than an inning (or 25 - 30 pitches max).

He certainly showed up yesterday, though. He pounded the zone consistently, and his location was outstanding, moving it around at will.
