Nothing about this trip, including the matchup, is bad. Liberty gave us a heck of a game in Norfolk that we were lucky to win. That your move up, combined with this terrific schedule you have crafted, will literally explode heads in Harrisonburg is the icing on the cake.

Congratulations!
Harrisburg is all asunder with many saying they would rather remain FCS and be relevant than be like LU and be a FBS indy. If we ran a poll, I'm betting most would favor being FBS rather than remaining FCS. Or maybe that is their reality to cling to as LU has smoked them beating them into FBS along with App St, Charlotte, GaSo, GaSt and ODU. A shout out to ODU for scheduling LU in it's FBS opener. And I hope LU stomps their butts.

RE: ODU will open as LU's first FBS home game
I'm a little confused about Liberty's two transition seasons. Is this 2017 going to be declared as the first year of Liberty transitioning from FCS to FBS or is 2018. I thought you were required to play so many FBS teams at home the first year of transitioning and then thought that number had to increase the second season of transition. I'm a little sketchy about the details, though I have read them a few years ago, but the one thing I do remember is that the first season of transitioning, any FBS teams you play, must count that game as an FCS game. Then during the second season of transitioning, they can count your game as an FBS game. All this is used for is bowl eligibility.

However, because you guys have no FBS opponents this upcoming season coming to Liberty, I'm wondering if this will be year one of transition for you guys or will it be 2018?

17 is the first transition year no post season play and they can give more scholarships. 18 is a minimum of 3 fbs home games and still no post season play. 19 is full thing 5 fbs home games required.

Actually a FCS game can count towards the 5 FBS game and Liberty is all set.
Quote:Schedule and play at least 60 percent of its football contests against members of Football
Bowl Subdivision. Institutions shall schedule and play at least five regular season home
contests against FBS opponents. [Bylaw 20.9.7.2]

Q. Is it permissible to count a contest against a NCAA Football Championship Subdivision
(FCS) opponent to satisfy the football scheduling requirement specified in Bylaw 20.9.7.2?

A. Each year, a FBS institution may count one contest against a FCS opponent to satisfy the
football scheduling requirement, provided the Football Championship Subdivision
opponent has averaged 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of grant-in-aids per
year in the FCS over a rolling two-year period. [Bylaws 20.9.7.2 and 20.9.7

You are correct, I didn't want to go too in depth but this is all accurate.

Our fans can't wait to get through 2017 so we can focus on 2018. There has been discussion of us redshirting a bunch of starters this fall to save ther eligibility for when the games really count.

That is VERY surprising to me. I imagine Gill is on the hot seat and the only way to save himself would be to have a great record. I don't see the logic in redshirting a lot of players as we should get better recruits now as an FBS school rather than when we were FCS so we want to transition to the better players. Just my opinion.

Your AD may want to contact our AD Pat Chun about getting a game at LU on Sept 12, 2020 when we have an open slot.

Im sure FAU could use the cash.

You could also offer games to ULM they are ALWAYS underfunded.

Also HBCU's
such as Bethune-Cookman
