If so what then?
Just wondering if some p5ers will stay behind, mybe Nebraska in a desperate move for better recruiting, seeing as their recruiting has tanked sense moving to the big10

I've seen some p5ers on here that would even " weed out the week" from their own ranks...
So how many teams does that leave them?

No, they have no reason to leave now that they have control of everything.

I could see them throw their weight around next time the basketball tournament contract comes up for renewal to make units more valuable for some conferences.

The problem to me isn't the P5 and its football structure a much as the other sports.

63 schools with mega resources that dominate all the national championships. Without them it makes the olympic sports more competitive.

To be honest the Men's NCAA basketball tournament would be more interesting without the P5. More interesting mid majors that fans want to see in the tourney over the boring old P5 schools.

Now that's some funny stuff right there. Comedy gold.

No. They will just raise the cost to try to drive schools out of Division I and out of FBS.

That will leave the AAC as the most powerful conference in the NCAA. 07-coffee3

RE: Will the P5 pull out of NCAA in 2024?
If the P5 conferences and Notre Dame leaves? They will take several schools with them.

Army, Navy and Air Force will come along.
Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV and UNR are sure going because of their academics.
Boise State, San Diego State and Hawaii would go for their football or destination.
UTEP, UTSA, Houston, SMU and Rice would be going because Texas and the other P5 Texas schools do want some body bag games.
North Dakota State because of their strong football and basketball and an R2 research. I think they would grab South Dakota State as well.
Tulane because of their AAU status.
Buffalo, Toledo and Northern Illinois could be brought with them for academics or strong football that people would watch on tv.
UConn, UCF and USF for their reasons.
East Carolina because of their fan base.
Old Dominion have a strong academics and good athletic department.
UMass. could get an AAU status not too far in the future.
UC-Davis as part of the little brother of the PAC 12, but their academics is on par.
Eastern Washington, Montana and Montana State are strong candidates for the P5 to pull from since they do have good football. Eastern Washington plays the PAC 12 north schools pretty strong. Beat Washington State and Oregon STate. Almost beat Washington and Oregon.
Stony Brook a fellow AAU school, could be a future strong football candidate for any of the P5 conferences.
Georgia State and Georgia Southern could go because the state have a large population wise that could support 4 schools. Georgia Southern more of the south eastern and south Georgia as the three of the others are in the northern half.

Maine, Delaware, New Hampshire, URI, Vermont, Alaska, all would have a team as part of the group.
For hockey? I could see they would bring all the schools that have hockey with them. NCAA D1 hockey would be dead. If Lindenwood adds a men's hockey team? They would already be part of the group because of their women's hockey. Would Central Oklahoma go as well if they turned the club team as a varsity team? Minot State and Simon Fraser could be added as well. Any Canadian schools be welcome to be part of this group?
Could some other D1 schools for other sports joining them?
Johns Hopkins, Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, Dallas Baptist, the Big East, Sewanee, U. of Chicago and so forth.

If they do, they could do away with conferences and go into regions with a nationwide tv network.

Why would they?

They have what they wanted: a new upper division of FBS for themselves

But why? Your teams will be still be playing the same ones they do now. Nothing will chnage on your end.

I could see Division I trying to leave the NCAA. Why should they fund Divisions II and III. This might also be a way to cut some of the chaff in Division I when some schools or conferences don't make the jump to the new organization.

No they won't. No Virginia Tech, West Virginia of any of the ACC teams that were peers of ECU before the Big East, BCS stuff. Look at ECU's schedules before about 1998...I don't live in Iowa anymore (it's been 25 years) so that won't keep me interested. If the school I graduated from is excluded I just don't see myself tuning into BC vs Pitt or even the big Bamer vs Florida or whoever left is deemed worthy by ESPN. There aren't any rivals in the AAC East for ECU. We've played UCF a whopping 10 times...

I could see some D2 and D3 schools be asked to join with the D1. There are Public schools in D2 with more than 10,000 could go D1. There are several D1 schools, mostly on the east coast, that are way too small to be D1. Presbyterian is the one with less than 2000 students. There are more NAIA schools that are much bigger than them.

Exactly. No bigger UH fan than myself. But I grew up with the SWC. Thats gone. Falling out of the power structure has been hard to swallow---but as long as we continue to play in the top level of football Im in. The moment we are demoted to the new FCS---Im done.

People may think thats BS. But I assure--its not. Sure, I'll still go to a couple of games a season just for old times sake---but I wont have season tickets. I wont be planning my Saturdays around the games. I already dont watch alot of P5 football---but since my team still theoretically chases the same national championship and has a shot a major CFP Bowls---I do have interest in the big P5 games. But if my team is out of that division---then I will have zero interest. Do they really think Im just going to adopt another nearby P5 team? Why would anyone think that? When the Oilers left Houston I found I had zero interest in the NFL. It just wasnt interesting anymore with no dog in the hunt. While I am big Texans fan and had season tickets for thier first 7 seasons---I found I just never had the same attachment that I had as a long time season ticket holder of the Oilers.

So, if UH gets demoted to a new FCS, Im gone. I will become more of a pro football fan. I'll get more into the Texans. MIght even buy season tickets again. I'll drop most of my sports channels because you dont need them to follow the NFL. I wont need ESPN or ESPN2 or ESPNU or CBS-Sports or NBC-sports or the SEC Network----wont need any of it. I can follow the NFL just fine with basic cable.

In the end---though few people ever say it---thats why the P5 isnt leaving the G5. With 65 fan bases---the G5 makes up about a third of the college football audience. The networks---especially the sports networks---need those viewers/subscribers just as much as they need the P5 viewers. The networks are in no hurry to lose them--especially now.

There is another reason the P5 and the networks dont want a separation. The future growth in the college football audience isnt going to come from teams that already have stadiums that hold 100K fans---in fact---some of those big name teams are starting to see their season ticket bases erode. Its even happening (declining attendance) in a number of long time mid-tier P5's.

Nope---the growth in the college fan base is going to come from the G5. These are smaller fan bases---that are under developed and underexposed----but many of them are huge schools. There is tremendous potential in G5 schools that havent really received the exposure of the big boys. Some of these schools like UCF, USF, Houston, Texas State, FIU, UTSA, Georgia St, SDSU--have 40-65K students. Thats where the future growth of the sport is going to come from---not the schools that have already realized the vast majority of their potential.
