RE: Trump"s LU commencement speech
Scripture tells us every good and perfect gift comes from above. When great things happen, we give credit to the Creator. That does not imply that God is playing favorites. We just acknowledge his grace when we receive it more than some others. In our finite human minds, we cannot comprehend what God's Will is for our football team. God has bigger plans than ours.

All people are receiving God's grace at all times. Do you give thanks for God's gift when things don't go your way? The dropped pass is as much a gift as the completed.

We should. Otherwise we are questioning God's wisdom & authority. Never a good idea.

Time will tell if you can be truly competitive at the FBS level with choir boys. It looks on the surface you have not really dominated the Big South, so why do you think things will be different now?

Don't let reality upset you

Upset? Who's upset? Liberty is finally moving up to FBS, they just released their schedule which looks impressive despite the short time that it took to make it, and our stadium is going to be expanded anywhere between 25,000 and 35,000 within a short time frame.

Liberty has taken and will take character risks before. Liberty's general students are such character risks as well. LU believes in second chances and gives people the benefit of the doubt whether right or wrong. Sometimes it works out, other times it doesn't. I don't expect that to change for our students or student-athletes.

RE: Trump"s LU commencement speech
There have been any number of kids that have been at other programs, did something stupid or screwed up, being young and immature, transferred to LU and been productive students and athletes. One can bet they come in with a short leash and understanding you screw up again, then you're out. I've known of cases with extreme results on both sides where kids were the wrong fit and got booted and where others were grateful for the second chance. I like LU's policy there as long as it does not lean towards taking perpetual problem kids, or coddles exceptional athletes who are given leeway at many other schools. Rules are rules and when kids come to LU, either first time students or transferring, you gotta conform. I thought Gill's letter to Sea of Red addressed that issue very well.

That's what you have to watch out for. Not saying it'll happen, but the pressure to produce can cause erosion in principles. Jr. strikes me as exactly the kind of person who will be susceptible to turning a blind eye to problems if it means winning more. He's shown that willingness by hiring McCaw and his willingness to snuggle up to one of the most immoral, low character men in America.

The coziness of Trump by Jr. is the most uncomfortable for me. That said. Trump behaved himself and did a good for LU at the commencement. I was very critical before he spoke, and am still uncomfortable with him being an ally of Jr. And, I was very surprised how well he spoke, on script, and I now believe the benefits of his speaking at LU were greater than the negatives, that were deserved. If he would have gone off script without a teleprompter I'm sure my thoughts would be different. He's likely not going to last this election cycle much less a second term.

Check out the graduation speech by Reese Witherspoon in "Legally Blond". Coincidence? Just sayin'

When Trump plays nice, he's manipulating the audience. Very cynical behavior. He knows where his bread is buttered. Don't let a sleaze ball act nice for half an hour and feel good about it.
