Nice article, but I'm looking for the day when we have a top 5 academic program, top 5 football or basketball team or are even among the top 5 schools in Virginia. Broderick is doing some good things though, and maybe has us heading that way. He deserves credit for finally getting us into the USNWR Tier 1 national rankings.

Yeah. A reminder we've come a long way since even I graduated in 2004.

Kudos goes to the Board of Visitors who disregarded the notion that a college president must have a Ph.D, which Broderick did not have. He was the right choice at the time and they did the right thing in hiring him. I wouldn't call him a great visionary, or well connected (influential), but is tremendous with getting the best out of the cards that are dealt to him.

I'm glad they understand that while a PhD is great and all. It serves a specific purpose. I'm glad they understand that purpose and being a University president are the same thing.

I've had some engineering professors that have their P.E. but not a PhD. They can't have their name on the course and have some other restrictions with their teaching. Never mind that those professors seem to actually 1) know the material better and 2) seem to be more effective in presenting that information to the class.
