Either I'm living under a rock or ODU isn't promoting these nearly as much as they used to. The only place I hear about them is from here on the boards

I got a letter in the mail, a single email about it and saw posts on Facebook. But yeah, in year's past, I think I got email blasted on this and couldn't forget when they were happening.

RE: Coaches Caravan
I went to the ODU Athletics web site to find it. Couldn't find it for the life of me, finally emailed someone and asked where the info was. Sure enough, it's on their site, but good luck finding it. I swear with the lack of info coming out, the less than impressive web site make over, dropping the ball on tours of the new facilities and literally hiding caravan info, it makes me almost wish for Debbie.
Big drop off in communication lately. Hope some one at ODU is paying attention.

I guess they found it too expensive to drive a few people up to the DC area anymore so I have just lost interest and given up. Will still see you guys at the games though...unless they decide to move athletics back down to the CAA. Then like Mr. Wonderful says, I'm out.

The last couple of times they did it up here it was a Nats park for afternoon games and the event was more laid back. I went to one of them and it was fun. Got to chat with Barefoot for a while as well as Scott and Nagy. There were no speeches or anything formal like the other ones. It wasn't very well attended. Maybe 20 people. Basically impossible for a lot of people to attend, even if you work or live in DC.

This kind of event is a tough beast to schedule in the DMV. You have it in DC and you exclude people from Tysons, Reston, Loudon Co. Mont Co. and other parts of MD. Vice versa if you want to have it in the burbs. I don't blame them for not wanting any part of that.

But we do get to send the curling team to El Paso, TX, Birminghame, AL, and Bowling Green, KY.

RE: Coaches Caravan
NYG, I agree that the turnouts were not great but at least it keeps the donors up here giving. I would think that most of us that continue to go have remain engaged enough to pay for these restaurants.

I thought both Nats events were experimental and sparse, but they could easily go back to the Arlington GC clubhouse for NoVA and/or back to the Lucky Strike beside the Phone Booth in DC.

Just hold one event in Clarendon or Rosslyn at one of hundreds of spots near metro and I would think most of us even on the Maryland side would try to make it. But anyways...not a big deal. I know those guys have other fish to fry.

Right after we hired JJ, they had one at Gordon Bierch in DC(which is like 3 blocks from me) and that was a decent turnout. I got to talk 1-on-1 with both Jones and WS for a while. The ODAF guy kept buying me beers. So I'm all in for them to do that again!

Lol I bought several rounds for fellow alums at G.B. If it was me and I had known you were a Giants fan, you'd have been drinking waters.

Where's that cheers emoji when you need it?

Oops just read your post again. If it was an ODAF rep, it certainly wasn't me.

Then again, if I was running ODAF, we'd be a much better known and respected sports commodity throughout the mid-Atlantic than we are.

Cheers again.

Didn't hear much. Corrigan looks like a completely defeated guy just playing out the clock. Basically begged people not to ask any questions by saying he doesn't know anything.
I asked BW if Hoy was getting a head start on learning the play book and he said Whitcomb is working with him on line. He'll be here June 25.
Jones basically didn't say anything. Might play Auburn and/or Clemson in tourney. One more game to book.

I was at the Gordon Bierch one and agree, that one was the best. There were talks, information was shared and the event centered around ODU. Once they started doing it at Nats stadium if always felt like the ODU reps were basically there to take in a game on the schools dime, but had to hang out before the game and mingle with fans to justify it. I went to a couple there, but it simply wasn't fun or informative. Basically hang out, drink a beer and maybe say hello to a coach for a minute. Im not a huge Nats fan, Im a Monarch fan.

These should be great events, and there are a lot of alumni with money up in the DC area. Seems they could do a smaller caravan up here with an event in Tysons/Reston, one in DC/Alexandria and one in Baltimore/Annapolis. If they even got 15 people to each one it would be worth it. Start small and grow from there.

Jenna ? Head of ODAF, said Women's Basketball coach selection should be made "in a couple of weeks".

I guess the fact no one other than me has posted anything about last night says volumes about how little 1. substance there is to these caravans or 2. how little enthusiasm we fans have for them.

I've been four or five times in Richmond. Get no substance but get to talk directly to all of the coaches. That alone is worth the $10.

RE: Coaches Caravan
We went to the one in Chesapeake and last night. A few less people than usual. They are always a fun way to meet other fans and the coaches. Definitely a bargain for $10, Good hors d'ouvres and conversation. It always surprises my how few people ask questions.

I got a postcard in the mail plus numerous emails about the Caravans and the Big Blue BBQ. I think most of the emails came from the ODAF email list but I think one was from the Alumni Association or the Email blast from being on the list from buying tickets, both season and per game.

I have gone to the Chesapeake Caravan the past two years but missed this year as I had zero notification from ODU as to when it was going on. I really don't think the marketing/publicity department is doing its job at all. It isn't hard to make a Facebook and Twitter post.

Interesting. I went to my gmail and searched and the last email I got about a coaches caravan was April 2016.
