"Truth is, after all, a moving target."

At least on message boards, that is.

Doesn't that just mean that Dance Competitions haven't started yet, Golf season is yet to get "exciting," Drill Team's season is complete, Soccer is in offseason, Scuba Team drained the pool and the Spelunking Expedition is a couple months away?

We're between all of his/her sports right?

Let's all vote on our collective opinion. We need to unite with 1 opinion so that no one's feelings get hurt. When do we get started?

Actually, all truth does not need to be spoken. Discretion is a virtue. It is defined as, "the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information."

Sometimes the truth only offends. I wouldn't ever tell someone that I just met, "You look very fat today", even if they were obese.

Also, sometimes a truth is only part of the story or is incomplete. For example, I might have said about Larry Bird when he was a recruit to Indiana State, the truth is that he appears slow and can't jump. However, while true, it would be inaccurate and incomplete in terms of his ability to play the game.

The other problem is that on message boards, opinions are frequently presented as facts and truth.

Even statistics can be slanted to fit an agenda. As Mark Twain, quoting British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, said "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

As a fan of the Tigers, I really enjoy positive, informative posts that are constructive. I do get tired of the attacks and agenda filled diatribes.

Someone needs to tell this to the head basketball coach too.

It really is why he doesn't post much any longer.

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, some of the negative folks would like nothing more than to run Tubby off - and they think naively it would help the program. Either that or they really do think they know more about how to run a D-1 BB program than a hall of fame coach & just can't resist telling him how to do it or telling us what needs to be done.

This is one of the best posts I've ever read on this site. +2.
