Sweeping UAB is no easy thing. They seem to win one every weekend, regardless of whom they play.

Not that I want to lose any of the 6 remaining CUSA games but the one thing that might work into our favor is that ODU and FAU play each other the final weekend so barring a sweep that will "buy" us a little cushion in the event we try to TTT it up as we usually do against UAB regardless of sport and location.

At least you have them at home. Rice once again ends the regular season at UAB, where we have a history of costly debacles. Way back in '07 or '08 we lost a national seed losing 2 of 3 to close out the season in Birmingham-- against a woeful UAB team. I could be wrong, but I think we've lost 3 out of 5 road series vs. UAB.

UAB loves playing spoiler.

If we can get past Lowery on Friday, I will feel good about sweeping.

FWIW, the ODU vs Va Tech game is being played at the Norfolk Tides stadium, which is in (you guessed it) Norfolk. It's about a 10 minute ride for ODU and 6 hours for Tech. There's a ton of VT grads in the area though so it should be a balanced atmosphere.

Think it'll be pretty sparse. I have no idea why they made this game get played at noon on a Tuesday at Harbor Park. Either make it an evening game or have it at the Bud.

if it's a minor league park my guess is that they have a home game at 7 or so tonight.....if not that is a very odd midweek starting time

There is but I agree with Drunkard to either figure out a way to have it on a night the Tides aren't playing or have it on campus

RE: 5/8 baseball standings/RPIs/remaining opponents/etc..
Hmm. Here's how I see it. It's likely played early because of the six-hour return home trip for the Hokies. Either way, (afternoon or evening) they likely make an overnight stay. This way, they come in on Monday, get a good night's rest, and play an afternoon game. If it is an evening game, there is no good solution, but to have just one night in Norfolk, they would likely have to drive in on Tuesday, and play a game without much rest after the bus trip. Stay overnight and leave on Wednesday. Just seems to me in fairness, the only way to do it is to play in the afternoon.

Am I reading this correctly that ODU is losing to Richmond (14-30, RPI 264) 5-0?

Yes. Inconsistency has dogged this team all season long. One day they are scoring 16 runs a game and the other day they are looking for the solo in the 9th. We never know which team shows up.

5/10 regional projections from D1baseball:

Hattiesburg: matches up with #2 national seed UNC
USM
Auburn
South Alabama
Binghamton

Chapel Hill: matches up with USM regional
UNC (#2 national seed)
ODU
Ole Miss
Winthrop

Forth Worth: matches up with LSU regional
TCU (#5 national seed)
Arkansas
La Tech
Oral Roberts

In this projection CUSA has a 1, 2 and 3 seed. Unfortunately our 1 and 2 seeds are matched up with each other for a Super Regional.

Is it really that unfortunate though? Imagine an all C-USA super regional... I mean I guess getting 3 in the CWS would hypothetically be better, but I feel like this would be good publicity.

Regardless, we all know this will change. This is basically a guess.

I agree it would be good publicity while at the same time it would guarantee 1 CUSA team would make the CWS but the greediness in me wants all 3 (or 4 if that's the case) to have a chance to make it to the CWS

Looking at RPIs and I realize it's "just" a projection but that projected USM regional would be brutal based on current RPIs

Hattiesburg: matches up with #2 national seed UNC
USM --- 18
Auburn --- 40
South Alabama --- 45
Binghamton --- 38

the 4 seed has a better RPI than the 2 seed 03-nutkick

Upon further review Binghamton is proof that RPI can be manipulated (not sure how but it is) as they've only played 3 games vs top 50 (and top 100 for that matter) and that was an 0-3 start at #37 New Mexico to start the season. Other than that they are 20-6 vs RPI 101-200 and 6-0 vs 201+

A couple reasons... They've played an even amount of home and road games, and they're 11-5 on the road (including a four game sweep @VT).

Also, some of their non-con have mediocre RPIs but decent winning percentages which is 50% of RPI (See: Cornell, St. Bonnie, Delaware).

Sure would be nice to get the SWAC champ here (I know what happened in 2003, this is different though) IF we host.

Berry would never do this, but if we get a JSU or Alabama State as the #4, I would throw Nelms or someone like that. Save the weekend trio for the rest of the week. Would give us a huge advantage.

Don't lose at home and you end up with a decent RPI. Pretty simple, really. Binghamton has only lost three times at home this year.

Be careful what you wish for...

Phillip Humber threw a perfect game in the MLB but lost to TSU.

And no offense to USM, but I don't think you guys have an '04 Rice type staff.
