I really like those throwbacks. It would be cool to see them with a black eagle logo helmet.

It's a shame that they now have a negative association with you know who.

You are so right. These are the best uniforms we have ever had, throwback or otherwise, but they are associated with 0-12. EJ should be buried in one.

We already gave him $3.2 million for doing nothing........i don't think we should be giving him anything else 05-stirthepot

Best way to completely disassociate EJ with USM is to wear these and win. Agree, these are the best unis we have put on the field. Probably would lose a lawsuit with LSU for the uni pattern but I would risk it......

Ah......I remember having to bring in lights for that game. Johnny Majors big return to Pitt......and we laid a nice giant egg on ESPN. At least we finally painted a logo on the field for that game.

Curtis Martin was on the Pitt roster. We got on ESPN, which was the only ESPN channel then, on opening Thursday because Ole Miss got probation.

In my memory, it seems like Martin caught a pass in the flat on practically every 3rd down and converted a 1st down.

We held them to 14 points, but the Touchdown Tommy Waters offense could only manage 10. That defense in 92/93 was something- John Thompson hadn't been figured out yet.

92 D was solid.....93?....with the exception of the Northeast La, Tulsa, UGA, Auburn, Louisville and Alabama games in 93 where we gave up an avg 38 points per game......maybe

we did hold SW La to 13 in 93......still lost........

Waters became the starting QB in '91 after Eric Estes got knocked into the Twilight Zone during a practice scrimmage and was told he shouldn't play QB anymore for the sake of his health. The coaching staff hadn't figured out red jerseys yet.

Now why Waters was still the starting QB 2 years later is a whole other kettle of fish.

I think it had something to do with "intangibles".

So, "intangibles" is to ability what "good personality" is to female appearance.

Probably his best game was in 92 against the Gators. Was at that game. The story was that Tommy broke up with his girlfriend before the game and almost won it late in the 4th taking the team down to the redzone and almost connected on 4th down to win the game against the Shane Matthews led Gators. The sidelines/benches cleared right before the half. Heck of a game.

The accepted compliment was "heady" as I recall.

My senior year of high school, I was tasked with "blocking" Bobby Hamilton. It mostly consisted of backpedaling really fast while attached to whatever part of him I could hold on to until he tackled me and the ball carrier. On the first play from scrimmage, he tackled me, the fullback assigned to help me, the QB and the tailback all at once. After we got up, the old guy that sold eyeglasses for years (Nelson Gibson or Bill Nobles, can't remember which one) grabbed me by the shirt, pointed at the gameclock and said "only 47 minutes and 30 seconds left of him, he's a good 'un, ain't he?"
