Jeez... Didn't see this coming. Lateral move on his part. I guess he will get better exposure from being in a bigger conference and play in a NBA-style arena (even though Depaul draws less than we do).

EDIT: Depaul's previous 8 seasons.. Overall: 80-173 (Conference: 21-123).

Wish him the best. Hard worker and wish our guards got him the ball more.

If the MAC guards pick on him in the pick and roll, the NBA would be merciless. Perhaps he will work on that at DePaul.

That being said, he won't be drafted next year either. NBA is light years faster than him....

Another guy we never utilized to his potential. I saw him vs Ohio State and he looked really good. And then we just forgot about him. oh well. Good luck Maric.

And no. a move to DePaul is not a lateral move.

DePaul needs help on the inside. Went to some of their games and Hanel (walk-on IIRC) would get eaten up.

Just foul him. He will only make 1.

Good player. Bad loss for us. Indicative of the program though.

some guys always with the cheap shots which are often based on misperceptions or selective perception. Marin was a great player for NIU: this year he ranked as follows in the MAC (out of nearly 150 players): 18th in the league in scoring, 4th in field goal percentage, 4th in rebounding, 2nd in offensive rebounding, 6th in defensive rebounding.

His FT % of .667 was better than Michigan St and Kansas team FT %. For a near 7 footer, .667 is not bad--and that was the weak part of his game.

I don't know that his leaving is nearly as "indicative of the program" as it is indicative of the graduate transfer rule. Playing against better players, in prestigious arenas often packed with big crowds and national TV is a hard lure to fight against.

That he waited this long tells me he really did think he had a chance of playing pro, guessing he got some feedback that wasn't going to happen and needed improvements.

Tough for NIU to see him play so close, he's a darn good MAC player. But DePaul is a step-up.

I have no idea what else NIU was supposed to do to utilize his full potential? He pretty much played every minute possible until he was fatigued or in foul trouble.

The Big East is a huge step up. He'll be going against top rate centers every game. I wish him well but he'll have to go overseas to make a living playing basketball.

So correct. When he came off the floor NIU was in trouble. When he picked up 2 fouls in the first half we usually ended the half down. Going to miss him in the middle.

DePaul just picked up a 5 star commitment. Good time to head to DePaul.

Too bad he didn't return here. I had heard that he planned on going overseas to play so this is surprising. Another rule that usually benefits the power schools.
