So why don't they write Bayern München as "Bavaria Munich"? (lol) Maybe they wanna keep at least part of it true to its name.
What is the point of this post? I've read it multiple times and each time I'm not seeing a point, any point, that explains the reason for this post.
Felt it was pretty straight-forward actually. Sorry for your confusion.
There's no confusion on my part. The point of your post, as best I can tell, is to complain over what essentially amounts to nothing. Bavaria is the English translation of Bayern, though I could be wrong, and Munich has been called Munich since before I was born. Munchen is the German name for Munich, but you knew that already. So explain to me what your point is/was again.
Oh dear. Do you always get this defensive? As you said yourself, Bayern has always been translated as Bavaria by English-speaking countries. As you also said yourself, München has always been translated as Munich by English-speaking countries. So my point was, if you put the two together to make Bayern München, which is a common reference for FC Bayern, I just found it odd that those same English-speaking countries call it Bayern Munich, and not Bavaria Munich. I don't know how else I can explain it. (lol)
And it's not a big deal or anything to me. It's just something that struck me as interesting when I was catching up on this thread. You're making more of this than need be, especially after aTxTIGER's eloquent response to my inquiry.
Yeah defconn is a bit defensive sometimes. I think it's cause he's a Dortmund fan

Matt Miazga of all people scores late to save a potential Quarterfinal against Costa Rica. 3-0 Final. US and Panama finish even on points and goal difference, but the US gets the top spot by scoring 1 more goal than Panama did.
Quarterfinal Wednesday against either Honduras or El Salvador.

It helped that Nicaragua just completely forgot to mark him in the box.
Side note...the biggest thing we learned from the group stage is that we A: Have no wingers, and B: Jorge Vilafana is not capable of playing left back in the World Cup.

If you believe A then its hard to blame Vilafana. If you have bad or lazy winger play then your FBs are always isolated and outnumbered.
WTS, I am not a fan of Vilafana really.

http://www.espnfc.com/united-states/stor...-cup-squad
added howard, bradley, dempsey, altidore, nagbe, and gonzalez
dismissed bedoya, guzan, johnson, roldan, dwyer, and rowe
wonder if they will give gonzalez a start wednesday...should be the easiest match and would get him some play.

RE: OT: Officially The Official Soccer Thread
El Salvador and Jamaica play to a dull 1-1 draw, in which both teams played the last 20 or so minutes out seeming content with the result, and not wanting to risk a loss. This clinches the last Knockout round spot for El Salvador
Assuming the Mexico/Curacao game doesn't end completely unexpectedly, the US will face El Salvador Wednesday in Philly, with the winner facing the survivor of Costa Rica/Panama. On the other side, Mexico will face Honduras in Dallas Thursday, with Jamaica facing Canada in the other Quarterfinal.

This tournament is a little pointless. I hope Rowe makes the final cut for Russia - he had a bunch of good performances.
I also despise Arena. He relies on players that will never be good enough and refuses to give youth a chance. The current pool is doing really poorly.

It's either pointless in your mind or not pointless. There's no in between.

How often is the Gold Cup in comparison to the other confederation tournaments? If the top two nations aren't taking it serious, then I think there is a problem.

Yup. Every odd year. The 1st one after a WC year is the important one with full squads. This years is B teams for the bigger teams for the most part due to WCQs and Confed Cup.
