RE: ODU Football 2017-18 Projections Wins
For bowl purposes, there's not much difference between 6-6 and 8-4. Hell, ODU went 9-3 last season and probably got the same bowl they would have gotten at 6-6.

A win over VT or UNC resonates regionally, if not nationally depending on how good they are. Again, going back to last season, 9-3 and a bowl win is great *but* who was the best win? UTSA? Southern Miss using a true freshman QB in his first game?

To a degree it also hinges on who those six losses come to — do you lose all the other games against teams better than or equal to you, or are you dropping one to a crap team? But in terms of impact, I think ODU would have gotten more buzz if they went 6-6 last season but beat N.C. State than they did going 10-3 but getting curbstomped by the three good teams they played.

Coupon only good for first P5 win. Void in Wake Forest.

RE: ODU Football 2017-18 Projections Wins
Good points but Im not sure a win over a P5 school while winning 6 games means anything. It will just be attributed to a bad P5 team if we were a 6 win team. I dont think winning 6 games gets any buzz at all.

I would happily go 6-6 if we went 2-0 against UNC and VT.

I'm all for beating VA Tech and UNC, but the likelihood of going 6-6 with those two wins is just immeasurably small. If we beat those two teams, the odds are better at going undefeated than going 6-6. I'm all in favor of beating both of them in route to a 12-0 regular season and winning the East Division in the process.

I just don't think we're ready yet for that level of competition; just wishing it doesn't make it so. Maybe this team with TH at QB. Perhaps I'm underestimating the maturity level of the program.

Agreed. Happy to have them on the schedule, as there's always a chance to beat them as long as they are on the schedule. I think we are a ways away before we are competitive with ACC schools though.

It depends. We were every bit as good or better than the bottom teams in the ACC. Kind of wish we would have played one of them. This year is a huge question mark bc of QB.

Wins - Albany, FAU, Marshall, Charlotte, FIU and Rice
Losses - UMass, UNC, VT, WKU, North Texas and Middle Tennessee

6 - 6. I'd like to think we can win the UMass game, but not sure how our QB play will be at that time.

Projection: We are all going to be very pleasantly surprised and excited about our quarterback play this year. I will not predict who winds up being the starter, but I am confident that the competition will drive the bar high, and whoever becomes the starter will come through with flying colors.

Really, REALLY hope you are right on that and the same for our new linebackers. 04-cheers

Good choices, I think there are a handful to look out for as well:

Jamez Brickhouse
Noah Ellison/Travis Fulgham
Miles Fox
Keisean Wilson

Saw the ODU 35 and UMass 29.

Think it will be a good game as we both return a lot of starters, with the difference is we are returning our QB.

Where is your twitter blurb picture.

Think we are tied for 48th with you guys but saw this and posting it to get you riled up.

Your returning QB isn't very good though. No trash talk intended, but he's just not very good. I wouldn't tout his return. I guess since he was a soph, there is some hope for improvement though.

So what is your QB situation. Ford and Comis were battling for the starting role when Comis had a season ending injury just before your game. Will see how Ford progress as the starter.

Here is a Visiting UMass Guide in case you guys make the trip to Amherst.

We have no idea at this point. 3-way battle between returning soph, fresh, and Juco kid.

We have a JUCO coming in this summer from the west coast who is expected to compete for the job against two others: Drayton Arnold and Blake LaRussa. DA was redshirted last year and we've never seen him play, BL got some limited play and looked fine, not great, but that's expected. BL was once a walkon and earned a scholarship. Both of those guys are small mobile guys. I think the way our offense is setting up we are looking to run a lot with play action. Dump off style offense I think, not putting too much pressure on our QB.

As always anyone chime in if I got something wrong. I didn't see the spring game.

Nope, I think you hit the nail dead center. I think we will see a lot of the read option with the QB actually keeping the ball more than in the past. I am especially looking forward to them running the set that they introduced in the spring game, with Cox and Lawry in the backfield at the same time. I think that set could turn out to be our trademark this year, and it offers almost unlimited play options (so to speak).

I actually may go. My parents moved to Ashburnham a couple of years ago and it's only an hour away from Amherst.

Nice, if works out for you, stop by our tail gate in the student village and season ticket lot 11. It maybe a shade over an hour, especially with parking. Live in Athol, which is closer to Ashburnham than Amherst.
