NFL was Kind to Charlotte 49ers
After only four years of football Charlotte had one player drafted and five players signed. I know making a team is a long shot, but I think that's a pretty good start. Do most teams have that many players on an NFL team after only four years? And will this help our recruiting?

Most teams first four years were decades ago, if not a century or more...

After one year of the NFL draft, Rice had three players drafted. (Two in the top 30). That was 1936.

But to be fair to the OP, it took us 22 years of football to get to that point.

RE: NFL was Kind to Charlotte 49ers
WKU has had an incredible spring with the NFL. 2 players drafted in 2nd and 3rd rounds and 9 free agent signings! Last year we had 3 drafted and 5 free agent signings. If you add up all the drafted and free agent players from all the schools in Kentucky including the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals they don't add up to half of the players WKU has sent to the NFL since 2012.

That is a great start. Congrats! Hopefully one of these years ODU will have a player drafted.

The problem is getting those other 5 guys to stick. I think KP and Austin Duke have a chance to make the practice squad but everyone else are probably just camp bodies.

Or put another way, many colleges started playing football decades before the NFL came about.

You have much to be proud of. You are correct, it is a good start. Charlotte has much to look forward to on the gridiron.

Here is a link that you can look at any school's draft history. I have it set on Southern Miss. You just change the list by the first letter of schools.

I'm salty about odu not having one drafted. Best player in our short history with henicke couldn't get drafted. Idk if he's even seen a down during the regular season yet. Hoping that Lawry will be the first

If Heineke had been as good as he was, at literally any position other than QB, he probably would have been drafted. Only 32 starting spots, most of which are held down for at least 3-5 years at time, by my count there are eight guys that are entering their tenth(or more) season as their team's starter(Brady, Roethlisburger, Eli, Rivers, Rodgers, Flacco, Ryan) and that doesn't include Palmer and Smith, who have been a starter for more than ten years split between multiple teams, or Stafford, entering his ninth season.

UTSA has had one player drafted and seven sign with teams through six seasons, for reference. Great start for Charlotte.

WKU ended up with 13 guys from the roster this year in NFL camps. That is an awesome number to see.

An immediate chance to start was the only positive of Larry going to the Browns.

UTSA had a player signed by the NFL a whole year before we started recruiting for football... no joke.

The NFL had not yet been created when we finished our 4th year of football.
