Troy men's golf receives at-large bid to NCAA's
Troy men's golf received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament today. They'll be an #11 seed in the College Grove Regional.

Troy has actually beaten the #3 seed Georgia and #4 seed Missouri whom are in that regional already this season. The top 5 teams advance, so there's a decent chance Troy can move on to the NCAA Championships. That'd be awesome to see...

This is Troy's third straight NCAA appearance, and second at-large bid in three years.

I know you want to win the conf. tournament but it does show respect for your program getting an at large.

Oops you did win it. Sorry don't really follow golf. Congrats anyway.

What do mean by at large bid? Doesn't the Sun Belt champion get an automatic bid?

Astate just missed out this year, but we had a freshman golfer qualify for the individuals. First time in nearly a decade that we have a representative in the tournament

The Panthers were seeded #11 at the University Club – Baton Rouge.

Well, Troy did kill everyone in the main 54-hole stroke part of the tournament. The top four teams after that part of the tournament advanced on to play each other for the SBC title in match-play. Troy went into that part as the #1 seed, but lost to Georgia State.

Yeah, Sun Belt runs its Golf Championships like the NCAA Championships. You can run away with the stroke play portion, but match play always decides the champion.

I'll say it again, we REALLY need to add Augusta University as a golf-only member.

Would be nice, but there is no way Augusta would bite on that. They've been an affiliate w/ the MEAC since 2015, winning the last 3 conference titles.

It's a simple, easy path for them to the NCAA tournament. The #2 finisher in the MEAC tournament this year finished 36 strokes behind Augusta.

If they were to come to the Sun Belt, they would be a contender no doubt but would not have a slam dunk path to the post season.

Which is a significant improvement by AState standards. We used to be terrible at Golf.

Huh. I actually had no idea they competed in the MEAC now. That does seem like a sweet setup for them in the one sport they take really seriously.

Of course, if we could get them to jump to the Belt...well, I wonder how many non-P5 conferences there are that can say they have members who have won NCAA championships in multiple sports within the past decade...?

We should be better than we are. Hopefully once they determine what is happening with the head coach situation we can get back on track.
