When you're playing Immaculate Word, that isn't even impressive.

...And, please recall, the Memphis fan base just ran off a coach who made 4 NCAA tournaments in a row! And, yes, I know Pastner missed post-season his last 2 years, but the rumblings of wanting him gone started after year 5 and getting blasted by UVA in the tournament. 4 NCAA tournament in a row and that wasn't good enough...
...

That's an incomplete picture of why fans were dissatisfied with even the "good" years under Pastner.

Agree. That was a simple summation, more detail:
1. Stubbornness to add a former head coach or X & O guy to the staff (after the departures of Willis Wilson and Jack Murphy)
2. Poor record against the top 25
3. Annually finishing lower than preseason prognostications
...

I would add, way too many losses against teams with RPIs higher than 100. Too many losses to teams like SMU (when SMU was perennially 175 to 250) and Tulane (and CBU even though it wasn't official) and the alarming number of transfers (and near transfers like Joe Jackson) while Pastner was here, especially toward the end.

Quote:But, he did 2 things:
1. Recruited his you know what off (which, at least, annually provided some hope)
2. Actively sold the program and was visible

Agreed on this. The recruiting sustained him through 2014 at which point the bottom finally dropped out of everything. He was also extraordinarily likable as a person, which made it harder to want to remove him than it would have been if he'd had a more prickly personality.

An example is the 901 program (not sure if I have the name right) where a buyer is assured of a certain number of lower tier seats at a discounted price - something not included in my season tickets.

It will not deter me from buying season tickets, but honestly it is appealing to me because it is a good value since I live outside Memphis.

I made a suggestion via email to the TSF office which I'm sure will go unnoticed.

Practically every game last season the two seats next to mine were filled with fans holding the $99 etickets. That's fine, but I would love to have the opportunity to purchase those same seats at that price. That it seems would be the least they could do for someone already making a donation and paying full face for their existing seats.

Guess that makes too much sense.

Were they lower tier seats? If so, that's the hook to get multiple people to buy the $100 tix. Someone didn't get those seats every game for $100. Someone got those seats for 2 games this year for $100. The other 16ish games, they were in the upper deck.

The ticket office would probably sell you those seats for $100 for just 2 games, but not the whole season.

Speaking of, I reached out to the TSF office about an unused handicapped spot on Tiger Lane, and the only response I got was "are you a TSF member?"

When I responded "no, but I give over $10k to the U each year", I haven't even received a response, no follow up email like "hey you know $25 can get you in the TSF", nothing.

Been over a week now. Silence. From the Director of the TSF himself. I know he's probably busy. Hand me off to a subordinate. I get that.

But no response whatsoever has me thinking the TSF is run by a bunch of f'ing idiots.

Sorry, announced attendance.

I think that is the tickets sold number.

Actual attendance was around 9,750

Says someone who does not attend the games. I did and it wasn't that much a lot the last few years.

No, not lower bowl. They are in one of the "A" sections that are literally level with the main concourse in the corners. I'm sure they are marketed as lowers in the promotional pricing though.

It just torks me that the university stoops to the level of satellite tv and cell phone companys by offering incentives to new customers not available to those of us who have been loyal supporters through good times and bad.

The A sections were marketed as lowers - you're right. I think the difference is that the same incentive is available to you. You could buy the $100 flex seating tix just like anyone could. However, they're not going to sell those seats to you for $100 because they're going to rotate about 18 different people through them - really 9 people on average, because everyone gets 2 "lower" games. So the equivalent would be if you bought them for 9 x $100 = $900 each.

That's ridiculous.

I guess I won't even bother sending an email inquiring as to whether or not they've determined TSF donation requirements for Tiger Lane next year.

PS - has anyone heard if they've determined that yet?
